Q: What's the best way to clean it?

You can't "clean" it except vacuum or shaking it out.

It’s quite thick. It definitely wouldn’t fit under a storm door.

Coconut fiber doormat works well, is nice and thick, does not seem to fade even though it had been out for months. Moved it undercover recently because if it gets wet it takes forever to dry.

Q: Does this mat have a backing on the bottom?

It's a coir mat. There is no rubber backing, just the underside of the coir. It's really a nice mat/ good quality and attractive!
