I have been buying this type of trough heater for years. It always works great and is super easy to get set up! Last year, the local farm store I buy them at was out. I bought this heater before the cold weather got here so I'd have it on hand when I need it. We have had some cold nights (low 20s) and each morning there is no ice in the trough and the pony has access to water all throughout the winter months. The heater is super easy to put together and is durable.

This product is outstanding! Used in my large metal water trough past winter when we had the week long deep freeze. Water Never froze!

I use this for my cold plunge that stays outside, many times it is below zero. I usually leave it in overnight and let it freeze over but then plug it in until it thaws just enough to use. If I let it heat up it could be 0 degrees outside and the water would get to like 52 degrees. So it definitely works but if you want to have cold ice baths it can be hard to plan so the ice melts but it doesn’t get too “warm”. Overall easy to use and works good, remember to unplug and take out of water before getting in.

Rusted within a week, Ill sand it clean and try a clear coat on the stand and see if that helps, otherwise works good, -30' and the water was liquid top to bottom, even had the tank lose all the water, caught it same day as I always check on it and even after being bone dry, it's still working with a refill.

I've had these heaters in my tanks for three months, and they work great! The photo is on a day when it was -9 F outside, and there was absolutely no ice in the tank. My two-year-old filly picks up the heater and throws it around, and it refuses to break. What an awesome and durable product! Highly recommend!

I live in a cold climate where the livestock water troughs will freeze. I have had multiple types of trough heaters. This one is working good. I have it plugged into an outdoor extension cord ( more than 100 feet, 2 attached ) and then plugged into an outdoor 20 volt plug that has a circuit breaker built in. It has not tripped a breaker yet. I did not do any of the grounding instructions recommended. I have used zip ties to make sure the cord to the heater is atached to the fence and the extension cord is attached too. My horse likes to pull the heaters out of the trough if the water gets low. They have managed to do it to this one already this winter, but it survived the assault. It has a good cage around the heater and with stratically placed zip ties have been able to keep the cord away from the element. I've that the element melt the cord and short out on the last heater I had ( not the heater fault). I've had the horses bite the element and bend it, so the guard is helpful I think. It is in a very large rubbermaid type trough, at least 300 gallons, maybe bigger, its one of the biggest sizes they make. It doesn't ice over at all. Would buy it again.

For two weeks it worked great. The "feels like temperature" here in Minnesota was -30 F (yes negative) for a few days. Brutally cold. This product kept my 85 gallon cold plunge tank at a balmy 48 F. Then I noticed the GFCI plug was tripped. Hunting around the house I finally figured out that this deicer was the problem. Now it won't heat the water, but strangely if you pull it out of the water and set it on the ground, it will start steaming so it's clearly working, just not submerged, which kind of defeats the purpose. Luckily I am in my return window. yay!

Works great in northern BC through our winters. My husband had one moment during a warmer day he thought it had quit until I reminded him it is thermostatically controlled which is great for a bit of energy savings! Highly recommend!

This product worked great to unthaw my 1/2 -3/4 60 gallon rain barrels after we received a cold snap here in Alberta. I would definitely recommend this product. We just left the de-icer in the barrel for about 12 hrs. and let it do it's job.

The de-icer is keeping up in my recent home made insulated water trough. The water is cool and no ice build up. We are currently going through -30 celsius chill factor in Ontario. I am very pleased. I should have done this a long time ago, since it created a use for the old leaking trough and left over building materials laying around. Drilled more holes in the bottom of old trough, in bottom placed sheet of 2" blue styrofoam insulation, set good water trough inside, filled gap between the walls with left over styrofoam pieces anything i had, sprayed in-between styrofoam piece gapping with low expansion insulation foam. I left a head space of 6-8" (no spray or foam chunks) to allow room to layer heavy house bricks around the top that I had on hand to prevent horses from chewing on styrofoam. Plywood lid is lined with foil bubble insulation sheet left over from horse trailer insulation. PERFECT! In fact I ordered a 2nd de-icer last night to keep on hand, GOOD PRICE!!

Excellent product and not just for farming. Allows sump pump to work all winter.
