Czech-English/English-Czech Practical Dictionary (Hippocrene Practical Dictionary)

My grandparents and great grandparents came from Czechoslovakia a long time ago. I grew up hearing the Czech language spoken at home and, indeed, in our neighborhood (Chicago). I still know a few words and phrases, but I don't want to lose what I do know and want to increase my knowledge.Here's a funny thing that happened yesterday (August 22, 2013). I was parking my car and noticed the license plate on another car - plate, 47CZECH. i approached the two people getting out of it and asked if they were Czechoslovakian. The young woman said her grandfather was an Olympic champion there during the Nazi takeover. She said she was adopted by her father after he came to America. We talked about words in Czech for a minute. I told her to check Amazon because you have dictionaries, etc. (Dirty Czech) that would help her learn more. How strange!!

The descriptions of usage for the words are not very descriptive at all and seem to be misleading from his perspective. I wouldn't really like to start of learning inaccurately.

Just what was needed!

I use this book for researching genealogy. What a plus!!!! Having English in the back makes it easier to locate or confirm that I'm translating the words correctly. Small enough to carry in my purse but large enough to see the print. Love it!!!

I got this in addition to the Conversational Czech cd's. It is a good basic translation helper, not much of a "dictionary". It is good though for the basics and I was surprised at the amount of abscure words it covered.

Awesome dictionary! Good dictionaries are hard to find because most of them do not designate the gender. This dictionary does it all! I highly recommend the ebook for easy word searching and on the go learning.

アメリカのAmazonでは高評価だったんですが・・・全然使えません。安かろう悪かろうのいい例かも。例文なんてまるで載っていないし、肝心の収録語数が少なすぎる。新書をちょっと大きく、分厚くしたようなサイズなので、旅行する人がちょっと使ってみる、程度には便利かもしれませんが、本格的に調べたいときは全く役に立ちません。高くても別の辞書を選ぶべきです。
