At your local Wal Mart or general store you can find a chess set for a more than reasonable price. At my local wal mart they have a 4 game combo for ten bucks. There is even a chess/checker set for less than that.. Sounds good right?...Well yes and no. The old saying "you get what you pay for" proves to be very true with these " bargain " items. The board is usually made from a flimsy cardboard that pretty quickly starts to disintegrate. The pieces are very small and made from what I guess is the cheapest plastic possible. And don't even talk about weight. They are so light that I forceful cough could knock them over. And yet I must admit that over the years these cheap offerings have been my go to when I wanted to have a physical chess set to play with.I am by no means a strong chess player, but i have had a lifelong love of the game. I drifted away from it over the years, but like so many being inside for Covid quarantine has reignited my passion for the royal game. Playing chess on the internet is so convenient and simple that it should be a crime.But what to do when I want to play an actual game with someone? Or to set up a position and study it? Instead of buying another cheap "bargain" set I decided to spend a bit more and see what happened. And I am sure glad I did, because it was money well spent.For less than $50 you get everything you could ever want in a chess set. Yes, the board is cardboard and it does fold, but there is a nice sturdiness and stability to it that will surprise and delight you. In time I may buy a wooden board to go with the pieces. And speaking of the pieces. Talk about exceeded my expectations. The pictures on Amazon are pretty accurate, but you have to see them and hold them to truly appreciate how great they are. They are not wood but polymer, and yet there is an elegance and class to them that make them more than worthy to be displayed in the home. They are also nice and big and have a wonderful weight to them. I can't describe how satisfying it is to lift a piece that feels solid inside. Each piece also has a nice piece of felt perfectly placed on the bottom to make moving it around the chess board a breeze. ( I forgot to mention that the board also has algebraic notation...another major plus. That makes it so much easier to record your moves when playing a game.) You also get two felt bags for the pieces.My only complaint is the color of the "white " pieces. They are almost a strange brown/yellow mustard color. I wish the manufacturer had just made them one shade lighter, but nothing is perfect.Other than that I don't have any real complaints. This is a great product for the price. But just in case you were wondering the internet is filled with wonderful wooden chess set combos in the $150-$200 dollar range. I will probably be taking the plunge into that price range soon (if i don't buy a wooden set more expensive than that) but for now I am quite happy with this purchase.

Don’t pay any attention to any negative reviews. The set I received was flawless. Nothing missing. Each piece was perfect. They have a beautiful high gloss finish. They are nice and large. The weighted feature is really appreciated when you start moving them around the board. Even the felt pads on the bottom were centered perfectly. You also get an extra Queen of each color and the storage bags are also very nice.I am very happy with my set and I can’t say enough from a regular customer how happy I am with this purchase. I recommend this set to any of my family and friends (anyone at all) who are looking for a high-quality chess set.Let’s talk about customer service. My new puppy chewed up a few of my pieces. My new set was ruined. I contacted the seller and received an immediate response from Onietoiy. These folks helped me out to replace my damaged pieces. It wasn’t even their fault. Before I knew it, the replacements were in the mail. This was by far one of my best customer service experiences I ever had because all they wanted to do was make me happy. And they did!Thank you!

I ordered this set because it was a reasonably priced set, The board is just an inch short of being tournament standard. The pieces are tournament size.Although the board is thick cardboard it really is not bad. The pieces themselves are high gloss and weighted. They feel good in the hand and, do not feel like cheap plastic. Having the extra queen is a nice extra as well.Summary: The pieces alone are worth the money. The board is a free add-on. If I were building a chess board I would have no problem using these pieces.

Well packaged with each set of the colored pieces in separate bags but loose together. Can't expect a separate case placement for each individual piece at this price. Board is solid for the folding heavy cardboard type material and lays very nicely unfolded. Finish on pieces are a little shinier than a satin finish which I actually prefer to reject dirt and body oils and clean easily and the shine isn't excessive to me. Green felt bottoms and weighting feels like double weight, would like a heavier feel but again at this price can't complain. The color of the darker wood like finish is very nice although the lighter color is a little less attractive and is more of a color in between a dark cream with a slight light mustard tint and would have preferred it more of a true ivory/light cream color, again not a huge point considering the overall value and quality of the set.

This is an excellent value. The pieces have a beautiful ckassic design with good detail. They have good weight and feel good in the hand. The dark pieces look the same as the pictures, but the light pieces are a little darker than shown, kind of a light carmel color. All in all these are nice shiny pieces. I find no flaws. These pieces are nicer than some sets that cost much more. Also being made of polyner they should last a very long time.The board is ok. Its made of cardboard, but it seems well made. Later I might buy a wood board but this one looks nice and has walphanumeric marking.

I never really played chess much growing up and stuff, but my father in law loves playing. He got me to actually have the "want" to play. So I looked into tournament set ups.The board is not actual tournament specs nor the pieces, but for the price your getting a nice set up.- The pieces are big and decently weighted.- Board is durable and has the 2-fold style to store it in the box- The squares can almost hold 4 pieces without overlapping the edge of the square. But they do overlap a little.I like this set up and have already played many games on it.5/5 for me

I got these pieces to use with my dgt centaur chess board, they are a good size for the two inch squares and in fact are slightly taller and heavier than the original pieces. To make the electronics in the centaur board recognise the pieces I just stuck some 1" circular silver paper stickers to the bottom of each piece.The pieces are a nice weight (king weighs about 46g) with no rough edges and a pleasant wood effect finish, the felt pads were all attached firmly with no loose edges. The carry bags for the pieces are not high quality, if I intended to travel with this set I would look for something better. The quarter folding cardboard chess board is slightly better looking than I expected, but I will probably never use it.Overall I am happy with this purchase.
