Sturdy and roomy bag
I got this bag because I needed something to carry my laptop in. I have a protective sleeve for the laptop and that fits inside the pocket in this backpack perfectly. (It's a 14" laptop.) I can carry the laptop either with or without its sleeve inside this backpack. That's very handy. I also usually carry a 40-ounce water bottle with me. There is enough room in the main pocket to put that inside as well. The laptop pocket has passed lining to protect your device, but only on the sides. Don't drop it on the ground with your laptop inside! This pack has two roomy compartments that close with zipper closures. The material is sturdy and seems like it will be durable over time. I got caught in a rainstorm while out with it and it was water resistant. The water beaded up on the outside rather than soaking through. I don't know if that is a feature that was designed into this bag, but I am glad that it was water resistant, since I had my laptop inside it! I like that there are two large compartments. They are both as tall as the bag, so there is lots of room to carry my stuff. On the front, there is a flat zippered pocket that you can carry small items inside, like a cell phone. There is also a larger pocket near the bottom of the front of the bag that is perfect for carrying power cords, chargers, and small items like that. This pocket comes with a little zipper pouch that attaches inside with a loop of fabric. I carry my extra batteries in that since they are small and would tend to move around and get lost in the larger pockets. You could also use the pouch for keys or other small stuff you need to carry. The outer sides of the pack have mesh pockets for carrying water bottles. My water bottle is too big to fit (it's a 40-ounce bottle), but a 16-ounce bottle fits fine. Or a canned beverage or small bottled beverage would fit in there. The top of the pack has a carrying handle that you can pick it up with. Handy to grab it if you have to get it from the back seat of you car.The shoulder straps are padded and comfortable. They adjust with buckles at the base for a custom fit.I am not carrying a lot of stuff like one would need for travel. I am using this pack for my computer and accessories, an e-reader, water bottle, camera, extra batteries. I think this use is perfect for this size bag. I don't think this bag is designed for travel, other than as a day pack. It's not the kind of pack you would stuff full of extra clothes for an overnight trip. I think it's a bag to use for gear that you want to carry on a plane, or stuff that you want to keep handy and not pack away in a suitcase. It would also be a good pack for a student who needs to carry a laptop, cell phone, some notebooks, and accessories like pens or pencils. I'd recommend this as a student backpack. It has also been handy for me when taking day hikes. It has room for everything I need and I carry a light jacket either tied to the carry loop or wrapped around the pack itself.Overall, my opinion is this is a nice pack with plenty of room for items carried on a day hike or for a student who needs a bag that will hold a small laptop or other screened device. The number of pockets seems just right for a pack of this size. Materials are water resistant, but that was just an incidental find when I got caught in a rainstorm. I give it five stars for having durable construction, lots of storage, and plenty of smaller pockets.

Pocket Does Not Fit 17.3", Much Less 17.5" Laptops
The pictures included are of one of the two laptops that I always use to test whether a backpack can hold 17.3" chambers: the EVGA SC17. This does not fit in the pocket at all as it is a little over half an inch (1.4 cm) too small and does not even fit fully in the unprotected chamber and the backpack cannot be zipped over the edges. The build quality is great with room for a dedicated adapter pocket, a recessed and padded . I am curious about which 17.5" laptop (an LG Gram 17 does not fit either) they tried to fit in here as it should have been obvious from the inner dimensions that this would be a problem. This pocket size should be rated for 16" at the most though the width of the pocket should be able to fit larger gaming size laptops but not rugged ones.Overall, the material quality is solid and I would happily use this with a 15.6" gaming laptop with discrete graphic card, but the 17.5" simply is not realistic with the bag that was sent.

Decent features, definitely not durable...
Updates on March 1, 2021 after some use. Update at bottom of this review. Decreased from 4 to 2 stars due to durability issues. Ordered this as I am a frequent work traveler, and travel/work duties are BRUTAL on backpacks. Always looking for the go-to brand. This product description is ok - time and several trips will determine if this review losses additional stars, so updates are coming. The Good: the material seems fairly robust compare to other packs in this price range. The logo and Everest branding are nice (silly thing to be commenting on, but some of these brands lately have been almost embarrassing- like WeeBackIngPackYCG and such ... I made that name up, but you probably get my point). Nice touch of a matching small pouch case for cords and such. Padded computer pouch, top load access, a couple additional pockets with key clip (nice for travelers to hook keys on after parking at airport) and pen holders, mesh zipper pouch, and typical pockets. Mesh bottle pockets on both sides accommodate larger water bottles and coffee mugs. The bad: not a whole lot of storage capacity. Computer, accessories, a book or so, extra tee by t not enough room for a change of clothes. Better suited for a day on campus as opposed to a commuter or travel bag.The ugly: some of the stitching seems suspect. Like where I would expect to see double stitching at common failure points (straps, top handle, etc) have single stitching. Padding on shoulder straps a bit thin as well.Update: Sure enough, the concerns outlined in “Ugly” have borne to be a valid concern. The fabric and stitching at the top handle have failed, and ripping at the handle connection to the pack on both sides. This just from easy daily use back and forth to work - even before getting to significant travel duties! Would not recommend this pack for the serious adventure or business traveler. Even simple back and forth to work waking perhaps 400 meters per day with the pack is apparently too tough of a duty.

Perfect travel backpack
As a middle school teacher, I try to get a few backpacks each year for students who need them. It's always very easy to find girly backpacks, but the boys are more discerning. This is great because it is not too flashy. It has more than enough room for everything a middle school student needs, including space for the Chromebooks that most of them are carrying around. It also is comfortable with straps that have padding for those that never clean anything out of it. If you are a traveler, there is plenty of room to use as a quick stowaway backpack for under the seat of the airplane.
