Honest Pros and Cons
FIRST, let me say that this is the most popular e-collar used in my training club. This is my fourth purchase of this collar since 2016. I’m happy to give the pros and cons since I have a lot of experience with this product.Pros:Correction levels: The correction is DEPENDABLE. I put that in all caps because with many collars, you don’t know what strength your dog is going to get. I have particularly disliked Sport Dog collars (I’ve had 3) because it’s hard to get a dependable, low correction when you need it. Sport Dog offers 7 strengths, and they’re all pretty similar. Educator collars give you 1 to 100 settings. I use myself as a test subject to see what the corrections feel like. I don’t feel anything until around a 14. My dogs start feeling something around 8, and it seems like a little nuisance to them and ignorable. When one of my dogs is in high drive, they start feeling something around 30. I feel like this is a sincerely fair training collar that doesn’t overdo corrections or provide inconsistent corrections.Waterproof: This is the first year I’ve tried using the collar in the water. It is completely dependable and I feel good about using it in the water.Actual collar strap: It comes with a collar strap you can adjust from very small to super large. I had to cut off quite a bit of it once I fit it to my various German Shepherd Dogs. The biothane ages well, includes a D-ring you can attach a tether to, and is very strong. With this being said, I do purchase the bungee type collars from Educator because my dogs don’t keep the collars on for long periods. The snap on the bungee collar makes taking it on and off much easier, but it’s not necessary, I’m sure, for most folks.Contact Points for short or long coats: It’s nice that they provide points for both coat types. I use the longer ones for my GSDs.Ease of use: you can program the remote very easily, and if you’re afraid of accidentally turning the dial up or down by accident, you can lock it to give one level of correction no matter how much you move around. There is also a great vibration setting and a sound setting.Additional accessories: There are plenty of products you can purchase from Educator Collars to make your collar suit you and your dog best. The remote comes with a strap you can attach it to, and wear it around your neck, but you can purchase a holster to carry it in. I strongly suggest you take care not to drop the remote, because durability isn’t a strong point.Cons:Quality of the remote: The remotes are not nearly as sturdy as a lot of more expensive models, but given that this model is so much less expensive, I figure they had to give up quality somewhere. The plastic is thin and cracks easily. My husband’s remote fell on the ground a couple times and the plastic covering on the antenna comes off, and the casing is pretty fragile at this point. Also, when I say it “fell on the ground,” I’m not saying it fell on concrete, asphalt or hardwood. We train in the grass all summer, and in a training room with a padded rubber floor.Metal allergies: Of four dogs trained with this particular type of collar, my 15 month old GSD has an allergy to the metal Contact points. I found out when I took him to my vet yesterday. She actually told me that if I use an Educator collar, they do sell hypoallergenic contact points. She says she’s surprised by how often she sees this sort of allergy. It was interesting she suspected I was using an Educator Collar. She actually asked if it was an EZ Educator, but I suspect the collars are the same, just the remotes are different. I don’t know that for certain and am open to correction. I just ordered two sets of hypoallergenic contact points and I really don’t suspect I’ll have further problems once I start using them.Using multiple remotes: if you belong to a training club like I do, I suggest attaching a colored keychain or something to the ring at the bottom of the remote. I use a very small, purple carabiner so that no one accidentally grabs mine and takes it home. (This actually happens more often than you’d think to other folks.)Charging: One of my remotes has been hard to charge ever since I bought it, but these days it’s going through charging cables at a rate of one every few weeks. Currently, I have several cables that no longer work. I don’t know if cables can become fried, but it seems really strange to me. Additionally, the red/green charging light goes out on this remote while it’s charging, so there are times when I think it’s not charged, but it is, and times I think it IS charged, but it’s not. Also, the problematic remote is not the busted up one I mentioned that belongs to my husband. It’s mine. I’m purchasing this Pro Educator in hopes that I can run two dogs with it, and I’ll let my husband have the two Educator 900 remotes and hope for the best that he’ll have a working remote if he charges both. He’ll have one that falls apart, but the one that’s hard to charge can be back up (and vice versa) if one of them just eventually quits.I do love this product, but I don’t think it’s made to be particularly sturdy while working dogs.

Great product
Great device. Seems built to last. Takes a little getting used to and would be nice if there was some training tip videos. But there is YouTube as well. The light is nice for night time.
