Lufkin Crescent 1/4" x 8' Executive Thinline Yellow Clad Pocket Tape Measure - W608

Just what it claims to be...a tape measure you can keep in your pocket all the time, for when you need a fairly accurate measurement and don't have a full-size tape. If you're at the big-box hardware store and you want to make sure you are buying a 3-inch lag screw not a 2 and 7/8. No salesperson around for miles. This little tape is just the thing. Like some folks, I used to think the last joint on my thumb was about an inch long. Rule of thumb? Measured that joint the other day using this little tape measure and it's actually about 1.5 inches. No brag, just fact. The tape's 1/4-inch, light yellow blade does have a moderately effective retraction spring but doesn't lock, and older gents will need glasses to read the markings on the tape, but it's still better than eyeballing or guesstimating. Durable? Can't say, I just got it. Anyway, I probably won't be using it daily. Lufkin has been in the tape measure business for a good while, so that's maybe a plus. The case is really small (1.8 in. diameter, or about the diameter of a golf ball, and .38 in. thick), made of very shiny metal (probably chrome-plated steel... I did the magnet test), and appears to be held together by a single screw dead center. The screw head is covered by the stick-on Crescent/Lufkin label. Neat little item that will almost certainly come in handy.

Very small and the tape will not stand up at all. I needed something where the tape would stay up out to around 32". Its great for a tiny tape measure if you dont need the tape to stand up. Not worth what I paid for it. Seems like a $5 item you would pick up at the checkout stand at a hardware store. Worthless to me.

It was a replacement for one I had carried for over 25 years. I love the connivence of one in my pocket daily.

This is a well made tape measure. Its shape and simplicity are just right. Since I wanted it to always carry in my pocket, it's just right, not too thick and a distinctive smooth shape that is recognizable when in my pocket so that I can just reach for it and almost instantly retrieve it while not mistaking it for keys etc.

As an aircraft technician this tape measure is perfect for when I service struts and check x-dimensions. It's good for other times I need a tape measure but can't use a big bulky carpenter's tape.
