If used like a shave oil this a very good shaving cream
I have used this for a while in the past and thought it was just alright. I felt it did not lubricate that well or that it dried out fast and I couldn't get that close ion a shave, but it worked. Recently I have been using shave oils and I particularly like Shave Secret. To use shave oils you wet your face, use a few drops ( I use 7), rub it in and let it sit about 30secs., then wet you face again and shave, then keep your face wet. So, I saw an old tube of this in under my sink. So I decided to use it as if it were a shave oil. I used just a dab less than a dime size, waited about 30 seconds, re-wet etc. and I found this to be really good, very slick and I get a very close shave. I do 2 passes with and against the grain, in-between passes I re-apply a very tiny amount and re-wet. Apparently, before I was using too much of it and not keeping it wet. For bg, I use an old Trac II handle that I bought in 1978 and Personna blades. What I always liked about this is that is very kind to sensitive skin, the skin feels really good when done. I will probably stick with this for a while, geez, a tube of this may last me a year shaving everyday. One thing, I really don't like the scent, but it goes away somewhat quickly.

Decent shaving cream, not great!
Neutrogena's "Sensitive Skin Shave Cream" is one odd product. It does its job as it provides for the blade to glide nicely and shave closely. But the functional capability is not supplemented by a sense of freshness. It has a slight scent which doesn't inspire and could even be a bit of a turn-off for some. In that respect it falls very short of the competition like Nivea's "Nivea Men Sensitive Shaving Cream" (Made by Beiersdorf in Germany), or Gilette's "Fusion ProGlide" (Procter & Gamble Canada), which both do a great job and provide a wonderful sense of freshness after the shave. The other thing which is very odd about this product is the directions about how to apply it. The note on the tube states that you have to apply a quarter-size amount and massage it in with your fingers. Well, good luck doing that without a shaving brush! You will end up using much more than that if you simply "massage" this cream on your face. What you need to do is to apply the quarter-size cream amount on your dry face while spreading it as much as you can, during which time you run very hot water into a glass holding your shaving brush (bristles down) in the sink. Once you're done spreading the cream on your face you take your brush, squeeze out the excess water (be careful to not burn your hands or fingers but you have to use hot water), then you start brushing the cream thoroughly on your face starting from your chin. You have to do it with the same quick motion as when you are beating an egg. You do it for a few seconds than you brush the excess foam all over and in every corner of the area with facial hair. During all that time you keep your blade or shaver in the glass filled with hot water so that the metal gets hot. Once the brushing done, you should be able to shave without any cuts or hurts in a heartbeat. (Just be very careful to not burn yourself)All in all this product gives me the impression that the product managers at Neutrogena do not know much about the art of shaving, nor the competition out there. Is it that they do not shave?! LOLAs a footnote, one of the very best shaving creams, alas no longer available as it was discontinued after the manufacturer changed hands, was Remington's "Clear Shave Gel with Aloe" (Designed in the USA & Made in England). My barber used to use it when I got my weekly pro-shave (probably an earlier incarnation). I used it at home too for over a decade in several variations (as marketing required apparently constant evolution but they were all excellent). After the product was off the shelves I bought a small stash from the discount store nearby which lasted for 3 years (LOLA).

No more aerosol cans
I bought this product awhile back because I was going on a trip and I did not want to pack a cumbersome aerosol can in my suitcase. Initially I didn’t like the product because it wasn’t the Barbasol standard that I have been using for the last 30 years. As it turned out that was actually a good thing because one day I ran out of the Barbasol and resorted to using the Neutrogena shaving cream because that was all I had. There was a sudden revelation that made me realize that this product was much better and far superior than my Barbasol standard and was much easier on my sensitive skin. The moisturizing effect was much better and I loved the way my skin felt after shaving. I also realized why I initially didn’t care for this product the first few times I used it. The thick lather effect of the old style aerosol was missing and made it harder to keep track of where you had shaved. So with that said this Neutrogena shaving cream takes some getting used to. The trick is to create some friction between your hands flat against one another and create a nice lather. Then pat the cream on your face. It’s not as thick an foamy as the Barbasol but the end result is a much smoother and silky shave. No more aerosol cans for me which is good for the environment and much more convenient for travel.

For me this was life changing shaving cream.
I've only used this shaving cream twice, but I can already see a difference. I'm not sure what it was but something would bother my face EVERY time I shaved. I would shave in the morning, and by the evening, my cheeks and neck would be flushed, red, hot, and itchy. That feeling would last for at least 2 days before it would go away.I tried 3 blade, 5 blade, and even safety blade razors, nothing seemed to help. I tried going from shaving every day to shaving twice a week to growing a beard, and only trimming around it once a week. I tried sensitive Gillette shaving cream, sensitive Edge shave gel, and even using sensitive soap and a brush. I even added a water softener, and 2 stage whole house filtration system thinking my problem was hard water. Nothing seemed to help. Then it occurred to me that maybe I was allergic, or having a reaction to the shaving cream, or the lotions on the razors. This week I went back to my safety razor, and switched to this shaving cream, and wow what a difference. I still felt a little irritation after shaving on Sunday, but it faded by the next morning. I felt so good that I tried trimming around my beard again on Wednesday this week, and even though my safety razor got stuck a few times (nicks and cuts from getting the hang of how to use it), there was no razor irritation, or burning sensation after shaving.I highly recommend this shaving cream, and a safety razor if you're like me and every shave was a nightmare that left your face flushed, hot, and irritated for days.
