Works perfectly for me; product not as pictured, though
Ever since a bone spur was removed from the base knuckle of my "Great" toe (as the podiatrists call it), I've had problems making my shoes comfortable. For example, my athletic shoes now require such a roomy toe box that my Great toe has developed a painful callous, from rubbing against the inside of the shoe. Then, my Birkenstocks seemed to exacerbate the callous. All of this made even my hiking boots less comfortable. I had never seen these toe caps but am glad I found them. I purchased two types: this one and Pedifix Visco-gel Toe Cap (Pack of 2) The reason I purchased two different types is because I found the descriptive material so lacking. I figured if one didn't work, the other might. As it turned out, both work fine but for slightly different purposes. The Pedifix is a bit larger, more opaque, and seemingly a little sturdier than the Pro-Tec. I will probably reserve this for my athletic shoes and hiking shoes. The Pro-Tec is clear and a bit "stickier" - almost like a strong, thin sheet of gelatin. Note: THIS PRODUCT DOES NOT LOOK as depicted here; they are absolutely clear, like glossy clear nail polish. I can wear the Birkenstocks and, unless you looked very closely or noticed the "shiny" effect, you would not see them. I'd say the Pro-Tec model is a bit smaller. But both types amply covered my Great toe, which is about 2-1/4" base to tip and 3-1/4 in diameter at the fattest point. My foot is size 10B. And both products could be stretched a bit farther.

The solution for black and/or under the toenail blisters
I am a distance runner and have been searching, in vain, for a product that would protect my second toe toenails from becoming bruised and getting blisters under the nail. I tend to "claw" the ground when my long run mileage goes over 20-miles on a single outing. This frequently results in bruises and blisters and eventually toenail loss. These toe caps were mentioned on another site, so I figured for the cheap price, I'd give them a try. I have completed several 10-milers with them, an 8-miler, and several 20+ milers. They have stayed on perfectly and protected my toenails. I haven't suffered a single bruised toenail or blister since I started using them. I am confident that I will finish my next 2 marathon's without injury thanks to this product. I should also mention I am using this product in combination with the Injinji socks. I wear an Injinji size small and it takes a little work to get the sock on over the toe cap but it works well for long runs. I have read the other's have had size issues with this product so I want to be as specific as possible about my foot size and toe size. I wear a size 7 1/2 shoe, normal width. I am wearing this product only on my second toe, of each foot, which are 1 3/4 inches long and approximately 3/4 inches wide (not circumference).

Broke with the first use
Size is very small so it over stretches when putting on, it is not uncomfortable but you can feel the tight pressure. Material is not too thick and it is soft, but it broke after first use. For the price this disposable contraptions are very expensive. I bought them to play tennis and avoid the nasty black nail that we all get for the constant sudden stops. I can’t really say that they helped because they broke and didn’t stop the nail from bumping into the tennis shoe. Maybe if the material was thicker, it would perform better? At this point, I don’t recommend this product.

Good, but not great
I often get some blisters on my by toes when trail running. I tried these for the first time last week on a 15mi trail run with quite a few hills. For the first time ever, my toes were fine! Today I used a different pair (since they came in a pack of 4) and I could sense the one on my right toe slipping upwards. I actually tried to put in on more snugly than last time, but I think that stretched it too much and caused it to rip on a small section. For the people saying that they are disappointed that it doesn't last long or rips tell easily, I think a lot of it depends on how much friction you have rubbing against the toe cap. My run today definitely had more up and down hills than the first time I used them. I think if they were any thicker, that it would feel quite uncomfortable on my toes. Right now, with the way they are, it's barely noticeable. I like that because it doesn't necessitate me having to change anything about how I run. Depending on how long you will be wearing them and what type of activity you are doing while wearing them, will really determine how long they will realistically last. If I can get a couple of uses out of each pair, then I'll be happy. I may come back and update after I've worn the same ones a few more times.

Mixed Review
I'm a runner who suddenly started developing persistant large blisters on the big toe of my left foot. I decided to give these toe caps a try with mixed results. First, size-wise, I wear a woman's size 10 shoe and have relatively long narrow toes. These caps have a lot of stretch and seemed to fit well. As for durability, the first one I used I was able to get 4 wears out of before it broke. I imagine durabiity is related to toe size (the more you stretch it, I would guess the shorted its life) and keeping your toenail well groomed will help longevity as well (the second one only lasted through one run but I think that was due to a sharp toenail). I run in two different types of shoes. When I used the toe cap in my Vibram Bikilas (toe-shoes) it worked perfectly. However, when I wore it with a more traditional pair of runing shoes and socks, the caps came off and got balled up between my toes some how...so the exact opposite of what you want as a runner! They are expensive if you have to use one for every run forever, but if you can't solve your blister problem or think it is short term, these are worth a try.

These are great. Bit tough to clean once there is contact with sand, but grips really well and it's very soft and flexible.
