This violin has a rich sound. The varnish is not too heavy that you can see the beauty of the would. Every person that looks at my violin is amazed at the sound an quality of the violin. My niece has a heavily varnished violin and you can distinguish the sound between the two. She would rather play on my violin when we practice together. I pimped up my violin with parastro tonica strings and upgraded my violin peg with jujubee pegs. Of couse, I had to have a violin Luthier do this but it was worth the money. The standard peg don't slip and the violin looks like an old classical violin. My son had a 1/2 Cremona violin for two years. This one is sounds so much better, my son loves the sound and his friends likes how the violin looks.
