Mill Creek full series release: Better than pretty good
This review is about the Mill Creek Entertainment full series release of Mad About You, not the show itself. I adore the MAY show completely, warts and all. I ordered this July 26, 2020, delivered next day.I've read some negative reviews about the MCE release (and missing scenes). I've owned and viewed various releases in the past. Here's my take. I agree with the negative comments about the cardboard sleeves; my discs aren't going back in those.Season 1 2-disc release by (???) (sorry, I no longer have it to confirm studio). I watched it on a high-quality SD TV (Sony Wega 36" tube KV-36FS10). There was significant picture quality (PQ) issues with shimmering and jumpiness. I didn't like the PQ.Then Seasons 2 & 3 were released by the same studio. These both had 3 discs with less video scompression, and I enjoyed the PQ much more (also viewed on the ssame SD TV).Years passed. I sold my old discs to resale shops in a house move. Should I have? Maybe, maybe not.I snapped up Shout! Factory's Season 4 & 5 DVDs when I heard about them. Then (based on reviews) reluctantly snagged the Mill Creek full series release to get seasons 6 & 7. All of the MCE episodes are the same (expected) number of half-hour TV minutes, with the exception that the end-of-disc Shout! episodes are 11 seconds longer, which turned out to be a Shout! promo. Other negative reviewers stating that scenes are missing should cite what they think is missing, then we can compare.I've now (August 2020) watched all of Season 1 again (MCE) on a Sanyo DP46841 46-inch LCD TV, in the pillarbox mode. I watched this show when it was originally broadcast, and this DVD playback is just the same. The first episode had a few shimmering artifacts (Paul's shirt) but nothing else jumped out at me like the aforementioned viewing. The MCE video content has obviously been digitized from an interlaced SD source (the interlaced motion combs are evident) and is identical to the Shout! content. (My personal theory is that each publisher just takes the SD content provided by NBC and wraps their own packaging around it.) The picture quality from such a source is to be expected. No reasonable person expects that a lat 1990s-early 2000s SD TV show will be redigitized at HD resolution and reencoded at this price point. Complaints about this are unreasonable, pointless, and irrelevant.I've just started watching Season 2. If I give a effinpoop, I'll update this review when I'm finished watching more.

Smushed but fine
Ordered on the 30th and it arrived on the 3rd. Pretty good, considering it had a buffer of 3rd-5th for arrival. I have loved this show for many years. Paul Reiser and Helen Hunt are hysterical together.

So it’s not “HD-K-high-tech” blah, blah... IT’s FUNNY!
REGARDING THE QUALITY: ... So, I have the 1st 2 seasons in the fancy boxes, yah, it’s nice, but I was dying to relive the rest of the series & didn’t want to spend too much. For those of us who remember regular quality TV, this was just fine! Maybe someday I’ll buy the the other seasons individually but, for now, funny is funny whether it’s in High Def or 4K or whatever, & this does the job, perfectly!!REGARDING THE SHOW: This IS one of the best shows (I believe) ever written! It is funny without being stupid, insensitive or obnoxious, all while being respectful of the old comedic classics -and- 20+ years later, it still holds up!! Because certain themes - marriage, in-laws, pregnancy - are universal & relevant to every generation, everyone can find something, or someone in the show to relate to, making it even funnier!Throughout the series, various episodes pay homage to the great shows of the 1950s & 60s & include guest stars of the same era. The shows are all funny in & of themselves but, if you’re old enough to recognize the those fantastic talents, it’s a great treat & double the funny!!Oh, also, for a few of the episodes, there is the added bonus of the real “Paul & Jamie” - Paul Reiser & Helen Hunt, discussing what went into making that specific show.NOTE: You only see those interviews if you choose “Episode Select” on the “home-screen.” Choosing “Play All” plays each episode WITHOUT the extras. Depending on your interest, it is nice to have the option.

For 30-35 dollars, enjoy a fantastic series, don't fret over the packaging (which is not nearly as bad as some would lead on)
I bought this item on pre-order from Amazon, and I am just checking in today to do a review. Just started season 7 this morning and as I was reading the previous reviews, I was kind of surprised about all the complaints about the packaging. If you are like me, and you buy a lot of "complete series on dvd" sets, you go in understanding that packaging is never great. 7 seasons of Paul Reiser and Helen Hunt for 35 bucks? That's a great job by Mill Creek and if the packaging is a little crappy, I can learn to love it. But I must say, I have been using these discs for a month now and if the discs get scratched, it is, in my opinion, user error. As long as you slightly bend the cardboard away from the disc as you slide it out, you should have zero problems. As far as the sleeves not being labeled, the first thing I did was turn each disc so that the disc number and season was showing on the part of the sleeve that does not cover the disc. I truly feel like this series deserves 5 stars. The price point for what you are getting is fantastic. In addition, the writing, acting, and comedic timing of Paul Reiser, Helen Hunt and cast is incredible. The series is full of moments that will make you smile, laugh out loud, and maybe even shed a tear. The series truly taps in to the human emotion, and gives insight to moments of every day life that we can all identify with. For 30-35 dollars, enjoy the series, if not the packaging.

(almost) perfect
Like so many people I had seasons 1-5 already, so I was really buying this just for seasons 6 & 7. Overall this box set is excellent value for money - even for just 2 seasons. The discs are very compressed, holding up to 12 episodes each. 14 discs at 2 per season. As far as video and audio quality is concerned this does not seem to be harmful. I have compared several episodes with the older Shout Factory releases and there is no apparent difference. Thankfully the temptation to re-format to 16:9 from the original 4:3 aspect ratio has been resisted. The discs are Region 1, so buyers in the UK/Europe need to be aware of this - discs marked '1' are often actually '0', but not in this case. The only downside in my eyes is the abysmal packaging. The outer box is good, but each season slips sideways into the back and front of a piece of stiff card. This is a guaranteed source of scratches over time. (Doesn't matter to me as I put all my collection into PVC sleeves - that's why I still give this 5 stars).[Please note that this set does not include the recent reboot.]
