Solid Brass Points Proportional Divider Marine Navigation Compass with Leather case

I just received it. It was well packed (too well in fact). The size is nice, but it's lighter than I expected for brass item. Either they're partly hallow or they are made from 'lighter' brass. Basically, when you grab it, you think it should be heftier but it's not. This is not too bad as a very heavy item may be tiring too.I will use it a while and update this review with impressions but my first impression is that it's well made. The points are sharp so it's easy to put in on a mark precisely on my printed NOAA navigation charts.As received, the one handed operation was a bit difficult. The individual legs were quite "springy", i.e., you adjust on two ends of the segment to measure but when you let go, the legs spring outward. This turned out to be an easy thing to fix. The screw that holds the two legs together was too tight. I loosened it a bit and adjusted the tension on the screw until it felt responsive without being too loose.Some have commented on the 'fake' leather case. This is not an issue for me. After all, who cares about that. It seems robust enough to last and will keep the divider safe in my navigation tool kit.All in all I am happy about the purchase and would recommend it. I took one star off for the 'weight' surprise mentioned above. After using it a while, I'll return and revise it. Perhaps the lighter weight is a plus and I'll add another star to my original rating.

The quality of the dividers is first rate. They were a bit stiff at first but a drop of oil made them quite good without being too loose which would have made them useless as dividers. When closed the points meet precisely and are very sharp. "Leather" case is split leather and cloth backed. Adequate for safe handling of these sharp dividers but not what I think of when I imagine "hand crafted leather." On the other hand, I purchased a set of dividers and the case was a bonus so I have no complaints.

I purchased these dividers for use in my art making practice and for that they are quite good. The right size for my small hands, they appear to hold their position well and I look forward to using them frequently. If you're thinking of purchasing these as a decorative item or a gift, be forewarned that the "leather" case is all but useless. I can't even get the dividers to slide all the way into the case (the item arrives outside of the case) and there is a strange little useless handle on the case, I suppose to make it appear like an old device that a ship's captain would have used. I'll be devising my own protector for the points so that they won't poke through anything. But for the price, the dividers themselves are quite useful and well made.

Works well one handed not as Saturday as I thought they should be as they do flex. Case is something else to be desired. Tossed it away very cheap
