New buy direct from the manufacturer Battic Door Energy. Our Premium Back Draft Damper is a non-mechanical in-line one way air flow valve that requires minimal pressure to operate, has no moving parts and tested to UL 723 standards. Get the full force of your fan with this non-restrictive damper which fits snugly inside the duct. 5 sizes available. Our Premium Back Draft Damper is the ultimate one way air flow valve, designed to overcome the inefficiencies and limitations of traditional gravity or butterfly dampers. The damper consists of a specially formulated fabric sleeve attached to an outer metal sleeve. The fabric sleeve will allow air to pass through in the desired direction of flow with miniscule reduction in airflow. Our Premium Back Draft Damper is the best damper available. It is superior in that it allows unrestricted airflow in the desired direction without reducing system efficiency. It is silent, produces no metal clanging sounds, tested to UL723 standards and can be installed in horizontal or vertical ductwork. Specifically designed to stop backdrafts from your clothes dryer, bathroom exhaust fan, kitchen fan, pellet stove, direct vent water heater and direct vent furnace. Tested to UL723 standard for flame resistance. Available in 4, 5, 6, 7, and 8 in. sizes! Installs easily - simply slide into duct. "During the windy winter months, the damper keeps performing with NO CLANGING!" - Sara P., Wasilla, AK.

Not a 100% solution. Results are variable.
I bought three of these. Each one was assembled differently. I used a fan to check their ability to block reverse airflow and discovered that the results varied due to variances in manufacturing. I found the "sock" was purposely adhered to the inside of the tube as needed to function properly but that the placement of the double-sided tape piece used to accomplish that varied from unit to unit, which prevented two of the devices from effectively working as intended. Also, the design permits the sock to be torn easily if you try to insert the device into a non-flexible aluminum tube such as that found attached to outside vents. These devices are intended to fit loosly inside flexible duct tubing only. They permit an unwanted variable degree of air backflow even when manufactured properly. As far as performance goes, they work (after reworking them yourself) but they are not 100% effective. The sock will not close fully repeatedly with a fixed amount of air flow from a fan. It performs less well with reduced levels of air movement. If you require more effective back air flow prevention an electric motor-driven device is the solution.

Just moved into a shore house and am closing off ...
Just moved into a shore house and am closing off the many airleaks. Although I have used this product successfully in other houses, the wind blows 40+mph here and the damper is not up to the task. The fabric just blew straight back and gave the wind a straight shot into the house. I am keeping in in the line but will have to add a soffit damper also.

stays open to long
stays open most of the time, I was looking for a device that stayed closed most of the time to help prevent small amounts of air and humidity from entering, this device only closes with a substantial gust

Works great
I installed two of these in our bathrooms to replace flapper-type dampers. The flappers would rattle and tap when we had high winds that caused shifting drafts through the various air paths in the house. These stop the air flow and do it very quietly. I will be replacing dampers with these in every house I ever own.
