I’ve never seen this form factor before (super thick) but it is required for some safety related equipment in an airplane. Current battery still strong after 10+ years and only replacing it now “just because”. I expect this one to be similar.

A necessary sized battery for engineering
I guess Duracell has to make batteries for all types of things. So I’d say this battery fits in that category. I see no reason for this size other than they needed a battery this size to make things. It works. It’s relatively expensive when you figure how long it actually is applying voltage to an item. But then again, they probably engineered items around the size of this battery.
