The Art of Arkham Horror Review: Beautiful Artbook - I've been looking forward to this book's release for some time. I own Fantasy Flight's previous art book - called The Art of HP Lovecraft's Cthulhu Mythos - and while I've loved that book for over a decade now, I've been wanting something that includes some of their new art. And now that I finally have my hands on just such a book I have to say the wait has been worth it! It's handsomely done all around - it's a large book, with nice quality paper that shows off the colors of the included art. Speaking of which, the art is just gorgeous. Pieces vary from somber/muted tones to surprisingly vibrant and colorful. There are landscapes both familiar and foreign, our intrepid heroes from the game, as well as the usual assortment of beloved monsters and gods that fans of the Mythos will recognize. And most of the images are a good size so it’s easy to see all of the well done detail (there were occasional inclusions that were on the smaller side but nothing too egregious). All around, of very similar quality to the excellent Investigators of Arkham Horror, which I also highly recommend if you're a fan of either Cthulhu Mythos fiction or art. My one complaint is that the organization is a bit random, with different groupings of themed art scattered about with little rhyme or reason. Such as, why is Dunwich under the "Eerie New England" subsection (which is under "Monsters and Hunters" btw) but Innsmouth was in a completely different section? And the investigators from the Arkham Horror game are scattered throughout, and you'd think they would all be under "Monsters and Hunters". Then under "The Dreamlands" section was what looked to be art not related to the Dreamlands at all (unless they're somehow tied together through the card game expansions). But this is just a very minor nitpick as it gives me an excuse to keep flipping through the book. This book definitely has an esteemed place next to my other assortment of Lovecraft-related art books. It's a must have for people who enjoy art based off of the works of HP Lovecraft and the Cthulhu Mythos! Review: Gorgeous artbook for any Arkham Horror fans. - Just one of my all favorite artbooks. I really hope they'll end up publishing a second volume in the future.

Gorgeous art and you don't have to play the RPG to appreciate it!
I don't play the Arkham Horror RPG from Fantasy Flight Games, but I'm an avid reader of H.P. Lovecraft and the Cthulhu Mythos fiction. So going in from that perspective, I nevertheless enjoyed this collection of drop-dead gorgeous artwork. There are pages upon pages of amazing paintings that bring Arkham, Miskatonic, Dunwich and Innsmouth to life. Many of the creatures and Old Ones are given spotlights, such as the Yith and Dagon. Yes, the characters from the RPG I don't know anything about do fill up much of the book, which is to be expected since this is a collection of art from the RPG, but they mostly amount to generic Prohibition Era gumshoes and flappers. If you don't know who they are, it really doesn't matter. The art is superb and a treat for anyone who is only familiar with the literature and not the board game. I definitely recommend it!
