This just in - Homebound Cat Journalists Are Now In Book Form!
Georgia Dunn's comic strip about cats (both her own, and neighbor kitties) reporting the daily events that happen around them as only on the spot crackerjack reporters can is warm and sweet. Whether noting the weather changes, the existence of neighbor cats, or simple events within the house, these cats are eager to let the world know about great things happening from their points of view. Cats Elvis, Puck, and Lupin are as excited about discovering hidden passages within the house as they are scared of the vacuum cleaner. A box full of packing peanuts tantalizes them almost as much their people choosing to sleep in on a Saturday morning annoys them. Sunbeams are as worthy of a report as their battles with their people to be up on the tables and counters.I discovered the strip last year, and have been entranced by the artwork and writing as much as the characters. Simple and sweet, these cats view the world from an angle I sometimes forget exists. My own feline family members would fit into this world quite easily, and it is a common event now for me to imagine any of our cats attempting to get the story of the day now as I go about my day.Based upon her own pets responding to the world around them, Georgia Dunn has spun a magical world where not only to the cats have mysterious access to cameras and microphones that no one else can see, but they are still open and innocent to the world around them. Elvis is the stubborn field reporter quick with an editorial commentary, Puck is the sensitive field investigator eager to explore, and Lupin is the desk anchor who can charm most anyone. The artwork is vivid, and you can watch the author's style progress from the earliest stories into the more relaxed and detail oriented visuals of later event coverages. As the stories tend to reflect things that happen within her family's lives, she brings an honesty and innocence to the page that any parent of pets can recognize within their own furry children. The cats respond to seemingly mundane moments with an energy and honesty that is both refreshing and sweet. While the cats may bicker within their social group, the family is always strong and loving, and the life moments seen with the wonder of a cat.If there is a down side to the book, it is that it is rather short, and some of the larger episodes are forced to break down into three pages within the book. But if the reader can fall into the rhythm of the story, it is well worth the effort to not expect a set up to punchline story within eight panels. No political commentaries or schticks to settle the reader into a pattern, the strip is equally likely to address the joys cats feel at the arrival of a pizza as the concerns of seemingly wild cats wandering into another cat's semi-established territory. If you are a pet owner, and constantly wonder what is going on in the minds of your pets, this is for you. If you recognize the same awe at watching birds and butterflies in your household, this is for you. If you have ever had a cat try to climb your leg as you make breakfast, this is for you.

Pawsitively Adorable. A masterpiece.
Miss Georgia is an extremely talented artist and writer. The drawings are painted exquisitely in water color and every time I go back to re-read a strip, I will always find some new and tiny detail I have missed. The cats are hilarious and heart warming, and they feel so life like. My family and I have become so invested in this strip and just adore all of the characters. Cat personalities are spot on for anyone who has ever been around cats for any length of time. These strips will make you laugh, cry, giggle, tear up, and outright guffaw. You won't be disappointed in this book.Edit: You can now find these guys daily in newspapers now!I have given this book as gifts to several family members and all have loved. I love how this comic is family friendly for ALL ages. You don't see that too often anymore.I really hope the publisher makes a second (and third and fourth, etc!) book of our favorite feline reporters! My cats give it 4 paws up each!

Who knew cats could broadcast!
This book is adorable! It's clearly written by someone who loves and lives with cats. The basic idea is clever: Cats are constantly reporting on themselves and their humans. From this perspective all sorts of mysterious cat behaviors make sense (well, more sense than they did before I read the book). The three cats have their own personalities. The illustrations are sketchy, but manage to give the cats facial expressions. The antics of both cats and their people are familiar to anyone who has lived with a feline. But the best reason to read this book is because of its sweetness. Everyone, cat or human, care for each other. While I laugh out loud every time I read the book, it is the caring at it's core that I enjoy most. Not sentimental, not cloying, but a loving tribute to cat silliness.2020 has been a tough year. This little books helps. A lot.

Hilarious, sweet and endearing!
Georgia Dunn's "Breaking Cat News" is a fantastically creative way of looking at the world through the eyes of a cat. What would be newsworthy for a cat, you might ask? How about the fact that lamps make great scratching posts? Or that not everything that comes in cans is cat food? That babies have alarms(!?) that can be set off? All of these issues, and much more, are covered by a trio of inquisitive on-the-(house) scene reporters and all of it is beautifully recorded in ink and watercolors by Ms Dunn (known to the Cats as "The Woman").I came across " Breaking Cat News " on the web and have become a devoted fan, so for me, picking up the first print version for my collection was a no-brainer. Ms Dunn's characters are full of depth and emotion and have made me both laugh and cry. They grow on you, and you can truly feel their personalities as the book (and strip) progresses. The only downside to the book is that it left me wanting more and wishing for a second book that continues the "BCN" story.I strongly recommend this book to young and old alike and hope you love it as much as I have.

Sweet and Very Funny
I discovered Breaking Cat News fairly recently, and it is wonderful to go back and see some of the earlier comics. They are terrific, so funny and so sincere. There is no nastiness or ugliness or cynicism. I prefer a printed book to the online comics in general, and especially in Breaking Cat News where the details are so charming. These comics would definitely be more appreciated by those who have lived with a cat than those who do not quite “get” them, but as a cat lover, I can tell you I knew exactly what Ms. Dunn was talking about in each and every panel, and many times I laughed out loud.

Fun kids read
My daughter has mild learning difficulties and was a reluctant reader. She adores these books as they appeal to her sense of humour and aren’t ‘chapter books’. They have really helped her to read.

At Last This Online Comic Is Available in Print!
Okay, a caveat before I review this book: I am a huge fan of "Breaking Cat News," the online comic by Georgia Dunn - and by huge fan, I mean I have a tee-shirt, a print that I framed at the cost of about $200, another print not yet framed, a postcard and a bookmark, and some of those items were birthday gifts from people who love me. So not an unbiased review here….But. If you are a person who loves cats, who has cats or who knows somebody who loves and has cats, you’re going to love this comic. The premise is simple: the three cats in the home of The Woman and The Man, cats being grumpy Elvis, sensitive Puck and adventurous Lupin spend their days “catting” the news desk or out in the field, reporting on stories important to cats, a la CNN. For example, there’s the story of The People moving the couch, only to reveal a lost treasure-trove, including most poignantly, the Buzzy Wind-Up Mouse toy, which brings a tear to the eye of more than one of our intrepid reporters. Beautifully drawn and painted, this is Ms. Dunn’s first print publication, but hopes are high about her becoming a syndicated cartoonist in local papers everywhere before too long. These ‘strips are gentle and whimsical, full of cat behaviour and also detailed and a delight to the eye. The adventures of our brave (well, in Elvis’s case, not so brave) three have continued on the website; these are the earliest ‘strips as I remember, and one can actually see the development of Ms. Dunn’s talent over the course of these comics, as each feline becomes more and more himself, artistically and literally. I’m planning on giving this book to a number of family and friends for birthdays, etc., and I know the recipients will enjoy every page. If you like comics, cats and/or cable news send-ups, this is for you; very highly recommended!

Adorable slice-of-life comic
This cute comic book details life with three inquisitive, expressive, hard-boiled feline reporters as they deliver grade-A news bulletins of home life. The three journalistic cats have vivid personalities and won't shy from tackling the hard news: plants that mysteriously fall off shelves, 3 am races, invasive insects, and that one neighbouring cat that keeps coming into their yard. The entire comic strip series is just too cute.

Kibble for the Soul
Breaking Cat News is by far the most captivating, hilarious, and better than chicken soup for the soul (kibble for the soul? lol) book I have had the pleasure to read. As I live in the UK, it took months and months before the gem of a book finally made it's way to my house, but it was WELL worth the wait. I love Georgia's brilliant sense of store-telling, beautiful well drawn and vibrantly coloured illustrations, as well as the countless details that connect each comic to the next and make reading this comic book the joy that it is. I treasure my copy and will re-read the strips countless times over. When I feel down, all I have to do is pick up this book and a smile is sure to spread across my face. I can't wait to buy her next book!
