Pixologic Zbrush 4r6: A Comprehensive Guide

A good hard-copy reference manual
This book is pretty much a straight-forward reference manual of all the features of zBrush 4R6. It goes through all (or most likely most, I didn't make sure) the commands, features and options 4R6 has and includes a handful of tutorials on some workflow items. I particularly appreciated some of the brush descriptions.Unfortunately, the example art used in the book is laughably bad... horrendously awful. But, this book is an academic guide, not an art tutorial so it's forgivable. If you don't want to use Pixologic's online manual then this is a decent substitution.

Nice for beginners
Nice for beginners, but useful for medium level users too. I discovered tools that I didn't know or I didn't know all they can do.The only thing I miss is a CD Rom, because the downloadable content it's a bit uncomfortable to use. But it probably increase the price.

An excellent reference book, great value for money but a little weak on the tutorial side.
As a newcomer to Zbrush I found this book to be great value for money. It is, as the title suggests, fairly comprehensive and packs a lot of really helpful information into its 12 chapters. To anyone wishing to learn Z brush I would say buy this book but would add a caveat- this is not really a training book but more of a reference book. It does contain tutorials but these are not it's strongest point- where this book succeeds best is as a backup reference during the learning process allowing you to quickly look up and learn about a specific function of the software. So the ideal strategy would be to have this book at your side while working through specific training tutorials from other books or from online. So four stars only because the tutorial side is a bit weak- but to be fair this book is not about tutorials as such, it is for those moments when you really need a quick insight to a specific aspect of the software- and for this purpose it is excellent.

it does give a pretty decent overview for newbies
The title states ''A comprehensive guide.'' Which is the sole reason for purchase. I haven't seen a full user guide book for ZbrushBefore. So it's a shame there's missing information on key features for more advanced users. Having said that, it does give a pretty decent overview for newbies. The other negative about this book. It's really, really, really, repetitive. Different features of the software, have various settings. As with most software. But, For some reason, the author deems it necessary to list all the main functions repeatedly before getting to the variable that particular function has. I hope that made sense. Not sure it did to me. Maybe I should go over it again.
