Looks like a great gage but my question is always how can it be emptied without taking off the bracket?

What is the outside diameter of the tube?

It doesn't look like it could possibly read accurately since the collection tank is so large. How could it be accurate when most gauges are small?

I feel slightly stupid asking this but I am not understanding how to read this rain gauge. The mark that is 1 is actually 4 inches.
