Sonos has made a system so difficult to set up you may never listen to it. You HAVE to connect it to the internet, you HAVE to enable gps location on your phone, you HAVE to let them spy on you. These are speakers. Why do you HAVE to do anything other than plug a speaker wire into them? Why? All I can see is so you can spend a lot of money on speakers for the privilege of letting Sonos spy on you and sell your data. For anyone reading this, I used to repairs laptops and later write software. I also have a cisco networking certification, so when I say this is difficult and merely a way for Sonos to spy I you, I know what I'm talking about.

Sonos just isn't designed to have more than one speaker in a room.I have two Play:5s in a large open kitchen and as long as you stand in the exact center of the room, it sounds ok, not great and the higher level of functionality I was expecting from a next gen speaker just isn't there. I like to turn one of the speakers out the window to have music on the porch, but once the speakers are paired you have to essentially reset the entire room to unpair them, then re-add them and do the full setup again just for that one speaker. To move it back to a two-speaker room, repeat the process and go through 10 minutes of True BS to make you feel like it sounds better.They're at either end of a long room, so if I'm sitting at one end and want to adjust the balance so I'm not just listening to one speaker and you have to go 5 levels deep in the app in settings to find the EQ and then adjust it with a slider that never hits the right number. Why the heck can't I just save a couple of pre-sets for the room?!?Look at HEOS or BlueSound if you want something that sounds good and works with two speakers in a room, don't waste $1,000 like I did.

I just purchased two Sonos 5 speakers, for $1,000. They sound OK – no better or worse than similar sized speakers from other brands I’ve heard in the homes of friends. But the software is just mediocre, and the Sonos people do not seem at all responsive to the needs of their customers. As one example: if you have song files on your mobile phone, organized into folders, you cannot view those folders in the Sonos app. If you go to the Sonos community and ask this question, you’ll see dozens and dozens of people asking for this feature, going back seven years. But Sonos has never implemented it.I went on Sonos chat to ask about this; after 10 minutes of waiting for a rep, Jeffry came on and told me “Just to set your expectation, you can play the music saved on your phone via On This Android Device. However, you won't be able to play the file save on your music library. Since the files from music library came from your PC or laptop”. That’s gibberish, so I ended the chat and called their support line. Got hung up on the first time. Called back, and Mateo told me this is not possible; they are “investigating” providing this feature, but have no timeline.Bottom line: you may wish to shop around and try another company, if you are interested in user-friendly software and responsive customer support.

In spite of what it says, these do not integrate with Alexa groups. Yes you can connect it to Alexa but you can not play them in the same group with other Echos. For me, this was deal killer. I'm sure for other it does not matter but it is something that should be made more apparent. I'm returning them.

Not a network friendly system, have it professionally installed and setup, otherwise enjoy random stops and starts, lost connection, account issues and unfriendly UI.
