A Go-to-Coffee, Mornings and Afternoons
Love this coffee! It's strong without being bitter or acidic. I like to drink my coffee black; Electric Moon's smooth, robust and great taste satisfies that experience. My wife loves it with a little milk or half-n-half. Beyond the excellent flavor is the boost from the extra caffeine. Really great for staying focused, getting "motivated" and overcoming that all too often afternoon lag. I’ve tried a lot of other coffees over the years including several excellent varieties from River Moon, but this one is my new go-to coffee for both mornings and afternoons.

Fresh tasty beans... never disappoints
I'm very pleased with River Moon line of coffee. This one and espresso and the Kona are my favourites.

Good Flavor, But I Can't Use It In My Espresso Machine
This roast is marketed as being "Medium Dark." The beans are evenly roasted and an appropriate color. However, they are extremely oily. It may be hard to tell from my photo, but the coating of oil on these beans is significant enough that it left a noticeable amount of oil behind on my hand when I put the beans back in the bag.Oily beans are generally the result of two possible causes:(1) Dark roasts which are over-roasted after the second crack.(2) Beans which have been sitting around for quite some time and are beginning to lack freshness. These beans have a sticker on the bag with an "Best By" date of 2/10/22, but no roasting date is provided.I ate a few beans whole, and they had good flavor which was not overly bitter. It does look and taste more like a dark roast than medium, but my palate is not sophisticated enough to know if the beans were over-roasted.Under normal circumstances, since the beans tasted good to me, I would have used them without even thinking twice about it. However, I use a De'Longhi La Specialista Espresso Machine for my grinding and brewing. It is not an inexpensive machine, so I try to take good care of it. For this reason, I am unable to use these beans in this machine, since oily beans can clog a fully-automatic espresso machine.I own a small, single serve burr grinder which attaches to a pour over coffee filter. I brewed one cup using this device and the espresso was excellent. It was strong, yet smooth and not at all bitter. It has strong nutty notes and, to a lesser extent, chocolate. I did not notice any more of a caffeine boost than I am used to with other beans.I would have given this coffee a 4 or 5 rating based on its flavor, but since I can't use it in my grinder, I had to knock off two stars.

High strength but little flavor
I had high hopes for this small batch coffee from Wisconsin - with an intriguing name like Electric Moon, and with a label that uses words like alchemy and artistry - but for me it doesn't deliver. I ground the beans and the aroma hinted at a strong coffee right away.I believe the high caffeine claim; it has a noticeable kick and I think 2 mugs would be overdoing it. So, if you're just looking for a coffee to rev up your morning or overnight study session then this fits the bill, but at the expense of taste and smoothness.I get a little of the citrus flavor they refer to, and a bit too much of the smokiness, which seems to overpower everything else. But other than the caffeine jolt, there's nothing to distinguish this from many other dark roast coffees that cost less, which is disappointing, and to me it seems to have a bitterness that detracts from the experience. At $15 a pound there are better choices available - look at the similarly-priced options "Wake the Hell Up" for even greater strength or "Ricks Roasters" for fantastic flavors.I want a coffee to be memorable and have a unique profile, but this one failed to make the grade.

Good, but unremarkable coffee
I like the taste of this coffee, but it is indistinguishable from dozens of other coffees that you can buy for less. It takes like a medium roast and does not taste burnt. As I write this review the price is $18 for a one pound. At that price I would rather buy locally roasted fresh coffee. This River Moon Electric Moon coffee does not taste like a premium coffee and I would not pay a premium for this. The package does not list the roasting date. The package I got in March 2021 has a best-buy date of February 2022. This coffee does not seem have any extra caffeine, which some might assume based on the marketing. The country of origin of this coffee is not listed.Comparing this to other coffee you can buy at Amazon, Verena Street is higher quality and I recently bought two pounds for $19. Koffee Kult is better and cheaper. I recently bought Kitu Super Coffee from Sprouts for $6 for 10oz, and that is great enhanced high-caffeine coffee.I like to buy whole-bean coffee and I grind individual cups right before brewing in an Aeropress. I am someone that pays extra for better coffee and I favor locally roasted fresh coffee.

Another Smooth But Average Coffee
It seems like Amazon is filled with endless new coffee roasters and "new" coffee blends that each have their own claims to fame to justify a price that is 2x to 5x higher than something tried and true like a "New England Breakfast Blend" (which is what I often buy and drink). This is yet another average coffee at a premium price. It is an OK fairly dark coffee with a very average taste. This isn't anything I would buy or recommend buying because in my opinion it is just not worth the price. It is not a bad coffee but there is nothing special about it. You could serve it to most anyone and they wouldn't complain that it was bad and they wouldn't rave about it.If you just want a cup of coffee for the caffeine jolt, you might want to consider buying this. It mixes fairly well with a flavored creamer but even that doesn't make it much better. There is no reason to buy this as opposed to something you already know you like.
