All Hail Queen Sutton!!
The very first thing, this book, this series deserves unlimited stars, all of it exceeds any expectations I had. Next, I'm going to continue to scream from the rooftops to everyone that has ears that they MUST start this series. I've never ever read anything like it. I'm not very good at putting my feelings into words when it comes to reviewing books, I absolutely do not do justice to them. So, we finally get book 3, anytime your waiting for the next book in a series you love, any amount of time seems too long. This book, this book, gutted me. I feel like these people are real, like I can reach out and touch them and in some instances, smack them for the decisions they are making or hug them when their world comes crashing down. Fortuna is one hell of a character, the many betrayals she goes through cut so hard it's a wonder she remains the person she is. She is very self aware of the world and people around her and still desperately wants to believe in the "goodness" of them. So, her pain just stomps on your heart. Every single secondary character is spectacular, I both love and hate them. The emotions this series brings out in me are severe. So, I'm not sure what in the world is going on with a couple of the side stories, they remain a mystery and I love it as I try to figure the whole thing out. The revelations this book gave us were, incredibly intense, like, holy smokes, no way, I should have seen it coming. So now, the last chapter, mind you, I'm leaving out so much but if you've gotten this far, then you know all what's going on. I knew it, I knew something wasn't right with him, it remains to be seen if this plays out for good or bad but these are Faerie, and not the whimsy good kind. More of the selfish, self absorbed, long planned out treachery kind. I do want to say that Gwyen and the Wild Hunt is such a great add to this as is Adam and his very well known sire. Anyways, we must now wait, ugh, but I'm gonna go with, all good things come to those who wait, plus there's no other choice. On a side note, I'm not sure yet what I think of Collith, he's treacherous for sure but I'm thinking Laurelis may be worse, maybe. This was AMAZING!!!! Anyone who loves this genre needs to read this, it will blow you away. ALL HAIL QUEEN SUTTON, she is pure magic!!!

Amazing plot line! Very addictive
I have just finished listening to the Fortuna Sworn series and my mind is blown. The world building was amazing, the character development was wonderfully written, and the plot twists were absolutely unpredictable. I have to say, this narrator did such a great job with this series. I know the next book comes out in December 2021 but I am really addicted to this series so far. KJ Sutton’s world building is so immersive that I did not miss one beat as this plot continued on. The spice really ramps up as each book goes on. Fortuna is such an independent MC and she’s honestly such a great character for this plot. She doesn’t need a partner which is what makes her so enticing to the love interests in this book. This book definitely had the angst of The Cruel Prince between these characters and I am here for it. The characters in this book were so uniquely written as well. Collith and Laurie are the perfect side characters with their sarcasm and wit. Lyari is by far my favorite character in this book though. I loved how she gradually became less grumpy and warmed up to Fortuna as the plot continued.I also really enjoyed the almost humanizing of this Faerie personalities as the plot continued. I would definitely recommend this series! I really enjoyed it and I can’t wait until the next one, Beautiful Nightmares, comes out in December 2021 !

After all, every nightmare has an ending.
What a wild ride. Each book becomes more and more of a an emotional rollercoaster. Deadly Dreams was a very bittersweet journey about recovering from trauma and the past. Fortuna even ventures to see a therapist, which was nice to see. But I feel like it wasn't really seen through. Especially considering the dumb, life altering, and heartbreaking decision she makes at the end. Also, it was great to see all the characters support Fortuna's therapy but you know good and well that every single other character should be going to therapy right along with her. Of course, it's a Fortuna Sworn novel so it wouldn't exist without some betrayal. I can't even be mad about the last one. Kelsey, you know who I mean.... (makes a mean squinty face but it ends up looking like this 🥺)We meet some new complicated mythical supernatural characters who I love and want to see more of. We learned more about Finn. I adore Finn with all my heart. We get some pure kitten bliss. Poor kitten still doesn't have a name, tho. 👀 We even get some jealous Stefan and Damon vibes because I always somehow relate everything back to The Vampire Diaries.Overall, Deadly Dreams moved the plot along and hopefully the confusing parts will eventually makes sense

Unique Characters, Surprising Turns
I read a lot and I write very few reviews because I'm too busy reading to review. This series deserves the time for someone to sit down and type out a review. I just finished the third book and I'm absolutely cursing myself that this is an incomplete series. The last time I read a series where I was this hooked and wanting to race through the find out the secrets was the Fever series. I love Fortuna. She's not the stereotypical heroine and I love that she struggles with her desire for power and revenge. She has been through a lot of trauma and has not dealt with any of it properly and therefore it manifests in different ways. I love the side characters, which is unusual for me, particularly when there are this many. I'm not even sure which love interest, if any, I'm pulling for. I may have to dark horse it and push for Dracula!!

Slow at times but the last third was really good.
After having stalled two-thirds of the way through, because it felt as though we really weren't making any headway on the story, I eventually picked this back up and finished reading it. Virtually from the very page I'd left this the plot picked up and I was recaptured by this great series. So much so that I read into the early hours to finish this! Had the entire book been at this level it would have surpassed 5 stars, if more of the book had been at this level I would never have come close to DNF'ing it. I do need to thank Julie of One Book More blog, as she encouraged me to finish this and was 100% correct about that ending! This is a long book a fair amount of which could (and maybe should) have been edited out, with no real impact on the story. There was a whole sub-plot involving Gwen and the Wild Hunt that was far too long winded for very little forward movement. Given the amount of words devoted to this, it should have driven the plot forward much more significantly. It does leave me wondering if the series should have been planned for 4 or 5 books rather than 6.On a positive, we saw Fortuna undergo a great deal of personal growth. There were still some rash decisions, but we saw a lot more forethought, more questioning rather than simply believing, more self-awareness. Despite it being heartbreaking to read, I loved how the author handled the trauma that both Fortuna and Collith had endured. There were some beautiful moments between various characters, some incredibly tender scenes, some moving scenes, some terrifying scenes and some confuzzling ones that will no doubt become clear in future books.I was awestruck by how a throwaway sentence in book #1, by a nameless character, suddenly held great significance. This is a complex story, one where you start unravelling a thread and suddenly have a whole layer seemingly revealed, only for another thread to add a different spin to the story. Relationships and allegiances, that in hindsight should have been obvious, were revealed like a slap to the face. Hints, clues, breadcrumbs and red herrings are scattered throughout and you could drive yourself insane trying to follow and unpick them all.The book spent far to long drifting in aimless circles with little advancement of the plot. So whilst this was not quite as good as the previous two based on the last third I WILL continue the series. I'm fairly certain, at some point, that we will discover that "Laurie" at the end isn't Laurie, but rather is his more evil and conniving brother. I could be wrong though.Sadly this also suffered from that very annoying trope of "let's avoid that simple conversation that would avoid lots of angst, suffering and misconceptions". There were too many interrupted conversations that remained unfinished, despite the opportunity to complete them. And despite the information being really important. In addition I felt there was too much needless keeping of secrets, which smacks of lazy/lacklustre writing.Perhaps I'd been too eager for this book, had built up such great expectations that I was bound to be somewhat disappointed. However this series here , The Messenger Chronicles by Pippa DaCosta, is an example of where each book has it's own story arc, whilst also moving the overarching storyline forward too.

What just happened?
Have torn through this series in the last 4 says and oh my god, what a ride. Love how almost everyone is morally grey, but was not expecting the last quarter of the book, totally surprised by it. Kind of hoping Fortuna sacks all the men off and runs off with Gwen in the next book. Have preordered book 4, roll on December
