Does this work in day light?

Yes it does but, be sure to keep the overexposure setting turned ON in case you point it at something incredibly close and bright or hot. For instance, directly at the sun on a cloudless day or a pressure lantern mantle on a close table will trigger the overexposure safeguard and turn off the thermal sensor to protect it. Other than that, it pretty much works the same in the daytime as night because it sees heat, not light. Just Don't get too close and look at very hot things day or night without the overexposure setting turned ON or it could damage the sensor.

Does this have any exterior lighting that is visible at night? Less expensive IR monocles have a red light that can be visible when looking at it.

How far can you identify a coyote?

This thermal can pick up heat 600+yards maybe more. II use mine to scan for yotes and I use ATN xsight. When you use it for a while you will identify each animals behavior. It will not disappoint!

What's the difference between the tm384 and tm15-384? and which is better?

The TM15-384 is newer, has a screen 4x the size of the TM384, and has a wider diopter adjustment. The TM15-384 has a minimum of 1.5x zoom and the TM-384 is about 0.9x zoom.
