Bravo for Bugs!
As the first reviewer, I feel obligated to give as thorough a review as I can! I'll answer the questions at the end of the book as a guide. For context, my son is five years old, and although he is intrigued by bugs, he's anxious about getting too close to them, and definitely doesn't want them getting too close to him!- Would you recommend such a book to others?Absolutely! I think it's wonderful for any child who is even the slightest bit interested in insects (or worms or arachnids) and learning more about them. It balances education and entertainment very well.- Would you buy the next book in the series?I would buy every book in the series! There are so many different directions this concept could be taken, and I appreciate being able to read my son something at bedtime that I'm not trying to rush through because it's just another story. It was a lot of fun for both of us.- What did you like most about the book?I loved the pages with the insect facts. The story portion was very cute, don't get me wrong, but my son got to the point where he was asking me questions about the bugs the protagonists had met before I could even turn the page! For each bug they come across it gives some interesting facts with awesome photos, and there's also a little chart of information that lists what eats them, what they eat, and how long they live. It also points out whether they run, jump, crawl, fly, swim, climb, dig, sting, or have thread. The cutest thing - after I read that rolly pollies have blue blood, my son asked me what color blood every other insect for the rest of the book had haha!- What do you think of the illustrations?I love them! The colors are so vibrant and every scene is so eyecatching. I'm actually a huge stickler for illustrations. When I go to the library to get books for my kids, the first thing I look for is a cover with impressive illustrations. I would have picked up, "What Bug Am I" in a heartbeat!- Was the story funny, interesting, and educational?Yes, all of the above! The story was very funny in that the characters all seemed to have an idea of what this mystery bug was, but time after time it was pointed out how ludicrous it was to think that he was one of them because _______! And of course, the actual photos and facts of the bugs were interesting (like the blue blood I mentioned earlier) as well as educational (you'll never guess how strong spider silk is)!- Were photos and facts about bugs useful? Did you find fiction and non-fiction in one book a good combination?Yes, definitely! Seeing a bunch of illustrations and reading facts is one thing, but being able to see the actual photos paired with the facts, it made it more real if that makes sense. That said, being able to follow the story and wondering what will happen next and where the mystery bug will fit in kept my son hooked, whereas if we were just reading a non-fiction book of facts, I probably would have lost him halfway through.- Did you like the characters? Do you think they're cute? Was the choice of insects engaging and appropriate?I did like the characters and thought they were all cute. I liked the choice of insects and felt most of them were appropriate. The one that really hung my son up was the locust. Even though the book pointed out that locusts and grasshoppers differ, my son didn't really get it and was like, "It's not a wocust it's a gwasshoppa!" But overall, I really liked the insect choices because they are all ones that a child may actually come across either inside or outside the home.- How long do you think this book will serve you, given the age of your child?Years to come. Definitely. He's only five, so there was probably quite a bit that still went over his head, but it's something I can see him reading to himself at 10 or 11 years old, and even sharing with his class or teacher.- Can the book teach your child some positive qualities?I was actually thinking about this as I was reading the book because the poor mystery bug wanted so badly to know what he was and each bug they came across kept essentially telling him time and time again that he didn't belong. Yet he continued on in his pursuit, so it teaches perseverance and not getting discouraged so easily when trying to figure something out. Also, the ladybug was very kind and patient in helping his mystery friend, which also teaches that it's good to help those in need which is always an awesome quality for children to learn while growing up!- Would you give it to somebody as a gift?I would! I don't have any friends or family with children in the age range of this book, however, the next time the school does a book drive, I will definitely be ordering the hardcopy of "What Bug Am I" to donate to the classroom because I know the kids will love it!Thank you for putting together such a wonderful book! I look forward to the next.

children's
Little Bug was stretching his legs.A ladybug introduced herself to him. Nope you’re not like me.They went to an ant hill. Nope not an ant.The spied some earthworms, Little Bug didn’t resemble them or a caterpillar. The kind locust said, defiantly not like me.Will Little Bug figure out what he looks like when he grows up?I do not receive any type of compensation for reading & reviewing free books from publishers & authors. Therefore, I am under no obligation to write a positive review, only an honest one.An awesome book cover, great hand-drawn colored pictures, charming illustrations & proper font & writing style. A very professionally written children’s (preschool/elementary age) bug storybook. It was quite easy for me to read/follow from start/finish & never a dull moment. There were no grammar/typo errors, nor any repetitive or out of line sequence sentences. Lots of exciting scenarios, with several twists/turns & a great set of unique characters, settings, etc. to keep track of. This could also make another great children’s educational presentation (overcoming insect scare), movie, an animated cartoon, or better yet a mini-TV series. There is no doubt in my mind this is an extremely easy rating of 5 stars.Thank you for the free author(s); BookSends; ReadingDeals; eBookStage; ManyBooks; Freebooksy;Amazon Digital Services LLC.; bookTony Parsons MSW (Washburn)

A nice little book about insects
This is a very nice that combines the animation stories of the bugs with real pictures and details describing them. My kid loves it since it has colorful pictures and really fun stories. It will be better if the book can be just a little longer.

Very good
If your child likes bugs, this book will be a hit! Not only does it tell a story (lady bug tries to help a new bug figure out exactly what bug it is), but it also has pages of facts about each of the bugs they meet on their search. I wasn't interested in the facts so I skipped those pages. However, I can see why they would appeal to curious children. While the story is about a bug's quest to find his identity, it is also a great lesson: friends help others. Lady Bug was hungry, but it was more than willing to help the new bug. It is never a waste of time to be kind. No, this isn't really the focus of the book, but I found it to be the best part. Sure, learning about bugs can be fun, but learning to be a friend? That's priceless!BTW - The book has excellent colorful illustrations that are bound to capture a child's attention. A win no matter how you see it!

A charming and educational story
My triplet 3 year old granddaughters enjoy this book, and I enjoy reading it to them. My 6 year old granddaughter enjoys reading the information about each bug. The illustrations are colorful. Each bug is friendly, courteous and helpful. This is an educational and informative book for children that adults don’t mind reading over and over again.

Really great educational book. I wish more characters were female. (Girls like bugs too!)
My kids love this book (especially the 4.5 year old) and we've all learned a ton! The adults included! My only complaint is that almost all the characters are male (an issue with so many kids books!) which kinda contributes to the idea that only boys are interested in bugs. I'm sure that's not the intention of the author! When I read it I just change "he" to "she" for a lot of the characters but I wish they were either more diverse or that the text just didn't specify as it isn't very relevant to the storyline.
