The Avengers The Ultimate Guide to Earth's Mightiest Heroes! Hardcover – 2 April 2012

A good book for die-hard fans. I finally got to prove to myself that Clint Barton was actually Giant Man for a while (though why he didn't have a giant bow, I don't know). Also got to tie up some loose ends I didn't quite understand about the timing of the Kree-Skrull War, House of M, etc.

This was a great addition to my library of comic book novelties. However, I was expecting more super hero insight and not as much comic book history. This is definitely a comprehensive guide to all things Avengers. Unlike "The Ultimate Guide to the Justice League of America" which gave one or two pages to each member of the Justice League and explained origins and how the super-hero joined the League, Marvel takes this book to a whole new dimension by starting from the 1960's era and working up to present-day (including super-hero bios, super-villains, comic book history in terms of author and inker, etc). Just totally mind-blowing and more than what one could read in just one sitting. The Guide is smaller in size compared to the Ultimate Justice League guide but it has 100 more pages (191 to 93 for JLA) and it also has richer and deeper art. I think it's the perfect geek gift for that Marvel fan out there who can't get enough of the Avengers genre. The index is larger and more complete than the JLA guide. I'm not really trying to slam the JLA guide because it's good as far as the DC Universe goes, but Marvel has just continued its dominance in the super-hero world.

All of the important events that have happened from the comics plus lots of character bio's and awesome artwork is covered in the book.I found the book very very interesting, informative and a great read - I really learnt a lot about the characters and main big storylines that have taken place in the marvel universe.I would highly recommend this book to anyone and it would definitely be on my ''5 items you'd take to a lost island'' list.As Roger mentioned, this book is easily an ideal Christmas gift ! No-one could ever be disappointed with this item!

I bought this for a christmas present for my nephew. I was expecting something just fun and cheesey that he would like b/c he likes super heroes so much. But when it came in the mail, it was like new, hard back and was much thicker and nicer than I thought it would be. I don't know much about super heroes, I was impressed with the artwork, and all the different things they threw in on so many characters through out the years. Someone put a lot of time and care in making this book. I know my nephew will love it!
