Verity
For me this is a dificult book to review. Oh yes, I liked it, just not loved it. I think of it as the angry book, as nearly everyone in it is angry about or at someone. Mostly it is a sympton of PTSD. The mysteries get short shift till two-thirds of the book, and then one of the mysteries takes precedent. It is a good one, and not one I figured out ahead. Most of the anger is resolved, PTSD takes a lot longer. It feels as though Verity is almost back to herself. Sidney is a stabilizing force, even though he too suffers from the debilitating aftermath of war. There could have been more of him in the story. There are really two mysteries and only one is solved. The other mystery with a long-running villain still waits for a solution. Old friends show up and move on.Please be aware this is not a standalone. It reads best when read in order with the rest of the series.Recommended.

Outstanding writing, but make sure you read previous books first!
I am a great fan of Anna Lee Huber's books. In this new contribution to the Verity Kent series the heroine and her husband finally make the trip to her family's estate where she confronts long-standing issues stemming from the loss of her brother Rob and other relatives and friends in the Great War. The author movingly describes Verity's coming to terms with her grief and rebuilding relationships - particularly with her mother - that have been damaged over the past several years. This line of the plot has been built up in the previous books: now, having dealt with her demons, Verity should be able to move forward. The mystery in this book is fairly minor, but well done; Verity's great enemy, Lord Ardmore, is offstage but threatening. Presumably we will see him front and center in book six. You can read this book as a standalone, but it will work much better - and you will appreciate Ms. Huber's skill even more! - if you first read the four earlier mysteries.

Huber does it again!
The Verify Kent series of books is a well-thought out, meticulously researched, flawlessly executed series of stories. This latest installment explored such weighty themes as grief over the death of loved ones and PTSD. Our hero/heroine super couple, Sidney & Verify Kent, continue to navigate through the murky waters of their post-war relationship while Verify is finally forced to face her grief for her KIA brother. All the while watching their back from their Moriarty-like enemy, Ardmore, and of course solving the mystery of a murder. Overall, a very satisfying installment . I'm already looking forward to the next time we meet!

So engrossing
This series is so good. I enjoy the complex characters and the portrayal of England immediately after WW I. I think the author has done a remarkable job portraying the emotions of those who fought that horrible war and those who remained and of course the at home as well as the political and bureaucratic storms brewing after the war.

Avid Reader
This was my first Verity Kent mystery, and it won't be by last. I could identity in struggling with the grief over the loss of a beloved brother. I liked how she dealt with her mother and sister. Her great aunt was such a sweet lady and deserved better than her maid. The cousin tried to get her to do better. The village of Hawes had changed in more ways than Verity realized. Her sister-in-law was a piece of work who expected man to simply "get over whatever happened in the war." Sidney was there for Verity, and so was her father.

Disappointment for some, delightful for others
If you are expecting another installment of Verity and Sydney's derring do, you will be sorely disappointed, as this story is chiefly about Verity's grief after the death of loved ones during the war. For those of you that enjoy that sort of story, you will like this book.It was also incongruous to read the many 21st century euphemisms. People in 1920 did not say "info", nor did they say " them " to mean his or her.

Emotional Book
Excellent book, very introspective into how we all grieve differently and that we all need to remember that as humans we need one another. Spoiler….The only slight draw back or unfinished item of the book was the Relationships between Verity and her Sister in law that was made into a big deal and was never resolved. I know her older brother seemed to get over it/and it’s interesting that the older brother came down in a earlier book and butted in Verity marriage but she cannot butt into his.Otherwise an Excellent and Wonderful story about family having to deal with hard and emotional issues.

Still wiping the tears and smiling… great mystery this time taking second fiddle to Verity and Sidney navigating her family relationships and trying to reconnect and heal while still solving a murder. Love Verity and Sidney’s deepening love! Can’t wait for the next one!

Wonderful writer. Great series. Can’t wait for more. Catches a glimpse of the pain caused by World War One. More books need to be written reminding people today of the past. The historical context leads to the well crafted mystery that keeps you eagerly turning the pages. Awesome series. Keep writing
