hugely disappointed although written well enough
I got really excited when i opened this book, so unusual to find a book written which takes place in my own country of Northern Ireland. Written as in the present day I just wanted to love it !!!It started quite well, but then I have to say that I was filled by disappointment, not because of the plot, nor how well it was written. It just couldn't and didn't work for me. Yes I know it's fiction and Yes the author did mention that she had done a little research with "Locals", well i'd love to know who they were, because they really let this author down.Firstly Southern Ireland and Northern Ireland are two different countries and the people are like chalk and cheese. Neither accents nor dialogue or speech, slang etc are the same. Unfortunately this author wrote the characters in Southern Irish slang and speech, which even at that is about 40 years outdated !! The Northern Irish characters also spoke in Southern Irish dialect and instead of enjoying the story it just confused and baffled me, and i found myself having to translate everything in my mind for it to make sense. At times i did find it a little offensive, we do not talk like that!!! And again yes i know its fiction !!! But so many things were down to poor, and little or no research done and it would have absolutely made this a super book !!As for the characters i did like them but again, lack of research .... Names !! Names, in Ireland say it all !!! No protestants families etc would be having the Irish Names like Connor, Liam etc unless they were Northern Irish Catholics !! Because you do know that for ever and a day, Catholics and Protestants in both North and Southern Ireland, do mix, have relationships and even get married !!! Yet again i was disappointed BOTH PARTS of Ireland are as different as U.S.A and Argentina ! It would have worked so much better if both families were Southern Irish, because the Northern Irish characters just Failed. The plot was good, the characters were good but their dialogue, names and dynamics might work for others who without knowledge think that people in Ireland still speak as they did 50 or 60 years ago. Culchies !! lol have not heard that in years !!! and Northern Ireland its never been used !! yer? we do say you.... bake? lol ermm well its most definitely not used as was in the book. Ride? that is as outdated and my grannys knickers !! The book was written well, but please PLEASE do your research !! If not maybe consider setting the novel in Ireland but with non Irish Characters

Deliciously dark
Where to even start! Right from the get-go this book starts dark af. It's gripping and action packed. This writing style was hard to get in to at first, the thick Irish accents were hard to read but once I got into it it was sooo good. So if you're struggling with the accent, stick it out and keep reading because it is so worth it. I can't wait for the next installment.

Other than "what the hell have I just read?"This story is such a rollercoaster, litterally you will not be able to put it down! I loved that it kept me in my toes, just when I thought I had it figured it out BAM, wrong!Puck and Babydoll are litteral fire, the chemistry between them is so hot it jumps off the pages.I can not wait for the next books to come out!

I need more Punky!
That prologue slayed me what a way to open a book. Thy Kingdom Come is set in Ireland, with the wars between ruling families in Dublin and Belfast, the religious unrest plays a part between protestants and Catholics this is the element that serves as the catalyst for the violence the majority of the time.During the prologue Punky's life is irrevocably change and brings the reader into why Punky is the way he is and what drives him from that moment at age 5 to now at 21. I loved the how Monica cleverly crafted a complex world of deceit and greed, merging this with romance fed by great chemistry between Punky and Babydoll. Hero and heroine are both broken souls, seeking retribution or refuge and will get it no matter the cost.Monica blended the violence with the beauty of attraction so well, I loved how the juxtaposition between these two ends of the spectrum tangled together and kept me hooked to their story. The way Punky and Babydoll are magnetic, they are undeniably drawn to the other yet the danger of their attraction is ever present. There are twists and turns a plenty throughout, the plot is more complex in ways I didn't expect and how the last couple of chapters played out were edge of your seat action, plot twists and heartbreak. Monica James yet again gave me a book that left me wanting more asap.I have a small critiques that were is my personal preference and just stilted my reading enjoyment a little. The slang used was distracting in places and for a British person with Irish friends I found the slang confusing and had to google things to make a paragraph make sense a couple of times. I get that it's authentic to the setting but it affected the flow of the story for having to stop and wonder what the heck they are talking about. For other readers I have no doubt they will love that authenticity and do not have any issue with this; but for me it didn't work in the stories favour 100% of the time.

Dark and twisted with an Irish twist
Looking for dark and twisted? This is your book. Our hero Punky has a dark story he has lived his whole life with and is now at an age to seek revenge, to avenge his mother’s brutal death. No one will help him get answers so he goes on a journey to find them himself. What he is not prepared for is all the lies and cover-ups, throwing everything he’s known into doubt. Our heroine Babydoll has her own agenda, but can’t help but fall for Punky and although putting herself in danger, she takes the risks for him. I’m going to be honest here and say I didn’t connect with her, I didn’t dislike her but didn’t like her either. It’s definitely down to the story and setting the future books up and I don’t doubt I will love her in the next book as this one was all Punky.One-off the things a liked about the story was the whole Irish setting and I loved reading the dialogue in my could be better Irish accent. This book was non stop action, never a dull moment with lies, revenge, deceit and the best thing about it was it felt like a full book, a huge story, within a story, but the even better point is that this was only book one! Making me excited for what is to come!
