The First Primer of Classic Mythology.
This may not be for everyone. This is an OLD book. Thomas Bulfinch first compiled the first edition circa. 1858. It remained the primary common source for classic mythology for over 40 years, the edition that I ordered & received is copy wright 1898.It includes the major myths, gods and epic poems for Classical Greece, Rome, Egypt & Northern Europe, Norse mythology and a very basic look at Celtic myth focused on the Druids. There is also a basic over view of Persia and India as well as the Middle East, Babylon, Assyria and Phoenicia which was newly added in this 1898 edition! To many this might seem quaint, old fashioned and terribly out of date!It contains illustrations, fine line drawings and black & white plates of some of the classic sculptures inspired by mythology, no colour at this time. It is a time capsule of fine literature inspired by mythology and the myths themselves as they would have been experienced by 19th & early 20th century America. This is not the type of book one sits down and reads cover to cover, but rather is a book that is browsed through or consulted as a classical dictionary or encyclopedia as it was intended as a hand book for classical mythology to aid readers unfamiliar with the many references in the poetry and other literature of the day derived from mythology.I hope this is helpful to any one considering this work.

Great read
This is a great book to read about some of the different mythologies that others have believed in the past or still might believe in now. It doesn't go into every detail of all the different mythologies that have been around because that would take many volumes of books to do so. However it is a great general reference to a few of the very different types of mythologies from the past.

A book that makes you wonder.
This is one of the best Greek mythology books ever. I love the poems inside of it. The stories really make you think.

A classic work, but I wish I had shelled out the 99 cents for a version with a navigable TOC
You could spend a long time and very little money getting a fantastic library of literary treasure with Kindle public domain works. For compilation works you would be well advised to make sure the edition you're getting has a table of contents with useful navigation links. Unfortunately this edition falls short in that regard. There are other editions of this work, which for a nominal cost, will provide a better reading experience, and I would suggest forgoing a snack or a coffee in order to seek one of them out rather than relying on this free one.
