Great book
This is supposed to be an adult coloring book but to be honest with you, I am afraid to take any type of coloring tool to them. These drawings are just amazing! Tim went into great detail to draw them and I am just happy to have this book on my coffee table to thumb through. It states on one of the opening pages that Tim did extensive research before he began his drawings and that he pays particular attention to the animal's eyes as he draws, which I can attest to as the eyes on these pictures look as if they are looking right at me and these drawings look lifelike. This is a hardcopy coloring book which surprised me when I opened up my package and inside the book, there are 50 different animals/creatures on the pages to color. Each animals has it's own page with nothing printed behind it. The animals are alphabetized starting with alligator and ending with zebra. There is a buffalo, lionfish, sloth, nautilus, lemur, hippo, cheetah, spiny lobster and a komodo dragon just to name a few. The paper is thick and has a slick feeling. On some of the pages, I don't believe it would take much coloring to finish the drawing as it is mainly draw is black and gray with a little bits of white showing through. I know the temptation to color just one of these drawing will have me picking up a colored pencil and filling it in and I feel that it will bring this animal to life but at the same time, just looking at these amazing drawings are well worth the price of this book. This is definitely a keeper.

Amazing for even beginners - gorgeous coloring results!
I just received this coloring book three days ago and I've colored a page every day since receiving this beauty! I need to preface, I do not have the skill-set to call myself a "colorist" and I have had dismal results from regular adult coloring books; my images were "flat" and boring. This book is gorgeous and I can't believe how amazing my three pages have turned out so far. Vivid details and lovely layering make these animals come to life! Certainly looks intimidating, but once you realize that you can layer colors (even over the gray / black), it's an "adult paint by numbers." White is lightest; black is darkest in your palette. Very forgiving and several times I thought I had ruined my design with the end pictures belying my doubts. You can easily color a picture in an hour or so if you desire. Many have concluded that colored pencils are required for these (which I can't stand - not enough color for me), but I used very fine (Stabilo) pens to wonderful vibrant results (and these can layer and go darker / lighter like pencils). I will be coloring every page in this book with hopes that they all turn out like the first three - live like and beautiful. HINT: if you use a heavy hand with your shading, be sure to put some paper between the picture you are coloring and the next page to ensure no bleed through.

Updated: incredible book
UPDATED: I have updated this review. I sent the first book back and ordered a new one. The new one doesn't have any of the printing issues that my first one did. The images are excellent and the color lays down quite smoothly. The paper is medium thick and printed on only one side so bleed through shouldn't be a problem. Although, I would still put a sheet of paper between pages just to be safe. So glad I tried it again. The drawings in this book were incredible. They rated a five star. However, the book itself wasn't printed very well. At least, I am assuming that it was the printer that messed up. Some of the drawings were so dark, that there was really no way (in my opinion) to put much color on them. There were also smudges in the black on several of the pages. It looked almost as if someone with oily hands had looked at the book before me. I really like the black and grey scale type of books, but unfortunately, I ended up sending the book back. I wonder if I just got a bad copy? I really hate to deduct stars from the author, but if the book itself isn't up to par it should be noted for other people.

A Message from a Mediocre Colorist...
A Message from a Mediocre Colorist…I had wanted this book for months but felt that it was way above my coloring skills. After much cajoling and contemplation, I broke down and bought this book. Now, I have ordered 3!!!I’ll tell you why…While the book looks hard to color due to the complexity of the images, it is actually the easiest to color book I own. Why?!? The shadows and highlights are predefined, which allow me to relax and just color. The more you work the page, the more alive it becomes. They become so alive to me that I assign them names, and they reveal their personalities as I color them. This makes them so much fun to color! When you are done with a page, it is a piece of art! Yes, even I make pages that I feel are art quality. It has built my confidence in my skills and my joy for my work. As the pages fill, they become a book of work that you can take pride and joy in as you had a hand in creating such beautiful images! When the book is full, you will want to keep it and flip through all the pages to see your cast of characters come to life before you. It is a high-quality book, which will allow for years of enjoyment over and over!Take the plunge and go for it! It will be so worth it!!!

Looks intimidating, but it's not
So I read reviews for these books and one person said that if you were to get 1 book go for this one since it has more pictures than the other books. Almost twice as many. So I bought it. The pictures are very beautiful. They do look quite intimidating at first, but if you just go with it and start, you'll see that the details that are in the drawings help you so much so really just make it look great no matter what you do. I used some pastel chalks, and some distress ink to do my first one, I did the 3 little jungle frogs. And personally I think it turned out great. I do think that the pictures could have been a little more diverse. (There's a lot of the same animals throughout the book.) That's probably my only negative about this book. Other than that, its beautiful and definatly a work of art.

Spettacolare
