Checkmate Love
I am honestly loving this series so far each one has made me laugh, there are steamy scenes and romance in abundance.Rory and Connor have known each other since they were children and have hated each other for most of their lives. Although they always seem to be in the same place at the same time. Living next door to each other they always antagonise and play tricks on each other.Rory is one tough independent girl with an addiction to hot cocoa, Connor has been the thorn in her side for as long as she can remember, he has gone from pulling her pigtails to letting the tyres down on her jeep. So you can imagine her horror at having to work on a construction site where they are sharing the responsibility of renovating her dream building. But suddenly after all the years of tormenting each other in every way things start to change between them in ways that no one ever expected. Will she finally realise that Connor has been watching out for her all these years and see him for the man he truly is and will her over protective brothers stop them from being together in the end?Connor has been fighting his love for Rory his entire life, bullying her but caring for her in the background when her brothers weren’t around to deal with the boyfriends that weren’t treating her right he most certainly did. He lives to torment her in every way until he comes up with a plan to use her to steal her construction business from under her. But it’s not long before he realises that everything he has done was really an excuse to be close to her and he’s determined to keep her by his side forever no matter what it costs him. This book had everything you could want, enemies to lovers classic story at its best with lots of humour and plenty of steam. But I loved the way they loved each other and would do anything to make each other happy and neither is willing to give the other up. And I defy you not to swoon at Connor’s tattoo……..

Ok but not what you'd expect
This is the only book not to deal directly with the Bradfords (Rory is a cousin) and it is tonally different to the others. Unlike the funny, exasperating antics the other neighbours endure, Connor's treatment of Rory amounts to a relentless 25 year campaign of bullying which causes Rory tremendous stress. I found the first half hard to read as a result. Then comes an overlong visitation by a string of Bradfords that highlights what is missing while at the same time distracting from the central relationship. Connor's behaviour once they settle into their relationship somewhat redeems him but more could have been done to explore their feelings. Not an awful installment but where I have reread the rest of the Neighbours from Hell books several times, I can't see myself returning to this one.

Another superb book
I've been waiting for a while for this book from RL Matthewson. It had alot to live up to after Perfection which is just fabulous. I was sooo pleased when this one didnt disappoint.Connor and Rory have had a stormy relationship since kindergarden (well introduced by Matthewson in the prologes), they have fought, played tricks on each other, got banned from places and spent nights in the cells. After winning the same contract to redevelop a hotel their stormy relationship continues. Their frustration soon tips over into lust (as it would) and you may well cheer when it does.As with all RL Matthewsons books the relationship of the two main charcters is forefront but the surrounding characters are as just as important. There is a welcome return of Jason (from Playing for Keeps) and Trevor (Perfection) and various members of the Bradford family (some advice read the other 2 before you read this one - its worth it). The humour, sex and in this one emotional is all there and I have to say that in Checkmate I actually shed a tear.I loved Connor and Rory. This was Connor's story through and through, RL Matthewson writes men so well, big strong men who are more vulnerable then ever when they realise the girl is for them.Loved this story. I love the way RL Matthewson writes whether its stories like this or Sentinal series..I really hope she carries on the series.....Andrew maybe???

Abusive bully
I've never hated a books leading character as much as I do this one. He was a bully, total jackass and abusive. How people thought it was funny I'll never know !! He may well redeem himself further into the story but for me it's too late when he stole her plans for the house. I'm not totally sympathetic with Rory as she could have stopped it years before but at least her up bringing have her some excuses.I'm sorry I won't be finishing the book as I usually like the author

Seriously laugh-out-loud!
I've been on a readathon of this whole series and just starting the fourth book, Truce. Therefore, I'm feeling a bit hungover so I'm going to be really lazy and write the same blanket review for the first three books (Playing for Keeps, Perfection and Checkmate).Oh my god! They seriously made me laugh out loud!I loved all the main and many of the side characters and their interactions. Mathewson portrays fantastically feisty, kickass heroines. The heroes are gorgeous and to die for. I loved the snappy dialogue, the plots and the humour. I enjoyed the author's writing style - it came across as quite chatty in places and more refined in others, but it all worked and was a great reading experience. I'm looking forward to reading more from this series in the future.
