Stab-A-Nut Sweet Gum Ball Harvester – Nut Picker Upper (Picker Upper + Reusable Collection Bag + Gloves) A9301

I already had a Bag-A-Nut Harvester which is great for when lots of sweetgum balls are on the ground but I have a few locations (such as around landscaping) where I've been using a Reacher Grabber Tool.I have yet to use the Stab-A-Nut on a major clean-up but it works great picking up the few balls that fall on a daily basis. It is light and easy to swing about picking up balls left and right that would require a bit of maneuvering using the big Harvester and quite a bit more time using a Reacher Grabber Tool. The only limitation is that its 7"x4" pickup end will only hold so many balls before it needs to be unloaded. The Bag-A-Nut Harvester is definitely much better for big messes, but this Stab-A-Nut is just about right for daily pickups or tighter spaces.Following some reviewer's suggestion I watched an online video on Bag-A-Nut's website for assembling the tool and noted which way to swing the pieces for assembly and also learning to extend the shaft by twisting one end before inserting it.When using this tool the key word is "Stab" as I definitely have to stab it at balls to get them picked up. Just rolling it over or lightly pressing against the balls doesn't work. But not much effort is involved and work goes pretty quickly.BTW you need to be sure you purchase the right model of Bag-A-Nut product. They make them for Sweetgum and other size objects so be sure you get the one for Sweetgum Balls if that's what you have.

I use this tool to battle fallen sweet gum balls in the yard and it does a good job. Overall a good tool and satisfying to use but lacks robust construction. Thankfully, you can buy spare parts from the manufacturer but those parts are over-priced too. The ejector parts of this tool (not the plastic tines) feel just a little stronger than some 3-d printed, plastic part. As a result, care needs to be taken with storage, use and assembly. Like some other reviewers, I have mixed feelings. I would have gladly paid more for a tool with better construction. I applaud the ingenuity. Maybe wait for next generation or improved comparable product.Update: I have since used this tool pretty heavily as a homeowner for a couple of years now. The sliding handle on the ejector assembly cracked just like in the video review on Amazon that gave this tool a low score. I contacted Bag-A-Nut, explained my problem, emailed them a pic and they sent me a replacement part. Outstanding support for this product. I also reflected on how the sliding handle broke. Basically what happens is the telescoping handle slips and slams into the handle of the ejector and that causes it to crack. This can happen easily if you have a half-buried nut or sweet gum ball that you are trying to pick up on hard ground and you hit it hard. To fix this issue and prevent the sliding handle from breaking in the future, just wrap some duck tape around the handle (inner handle) just below where the outer tube can slide down. The duck tape will catch the telescoping handle from slipping and thereby damaging the sliding handle of the ejector assembly. I have since raised my rating to 4 stars! This tool can work well for you with this simple adjustment and Bag-A-Nut's excellent product support.

I bought this tool for my husband after we purchased a home that had several Sweetgum trees in the yard. I really feel like this gadget is multipurpose in that it helps to relieve stress you might be feeling after using it for 30 to 45 minutes. On a side note, the sweetgum balls you pick up burn really well as kindling in your fire pit. Highly recommended gadget.

I have the large rolling bag-a-nut for the sweet gum balls in the yard but I couldn’t get them out of the flower beds or other landscaping without raking out mulch or landscaping rock. This tool allows for a quick, clean collection of gum balls without disturbing anything. Also allows for a long reach when needed. Functions very well.

I have been looking for something like this for many years. I have been plagued with multitudes of sweet gum balls and this is the easiest way I’ve found to gather them.

Really? If I only needed to “stab” a few nuts- yeah it works- but to spend $65 on that? I’m sorry- no. I raked them up 100 times faster. But nice concept. I’m sure it could be used for something.

I will start off with - it does work, I was able to extract gumballs from embedded grass which was nice to see... works even better if you have someone to quickly rake over the area and expose them!I noticed right away that the extension arms would take turns coming detached from the handle, so I would waste time reattaching them, simple but the design could have been better.Because of that I wonder how long the whole assembly will last. It is plastic, and the constant "shock" of stabbing gumballs I'm sure will take its toll.If you're looking for a way to pick up light daily/weekly messes - small area... and the price tag doesn't already scare you off, then this tool could be for you. Just know you'll need to do some repairs at some point.I have a decent sized yard with 10 sweet gum trees, I'm in gumball hell. I decided to try the nut stabber out to check quality of the product before I even considered dropping $400-$500 on one of their larger push models. I'm afraid I won't be going that route, that's too much for gumballs anyways - I'm sure if you've got nuts all over your yard this would be ideal.Overall, I feel for the price it could have been better, or current quality - it's over-priced!It does work, the concept is smart and effective.

No more over raking my yard to gather and remove sweet gum balls! It’s pricey but it works. Mulching with a mower makes pickup more difficult. I suggest walking the yard with this and a bucket before mowing. This thing is gonna save my back!
