markedly improved over the first teo
Continuing my trip back over 35 years covering the first ten books in the series after having read all of the others. Plot was complex and it was a little difficult keeping up with the constant influx of new characters. Overall this book was much better than the first two.

New to reading Kellerman
I just started reading books from this author. I have enjoyed the first 3 books in the Dr. D series, but I felt at times there was too much detail written about the locations. Easy enough to skim past. So far, I'm hooked!

Kellerman Offends Readers With His Personal Views of Reproductive Rights.
I had begun this book with much anticipation of enjoying it. It's the second book by Kellerman that I've read. Unfortunately, I was shocked to find Kellerman's cynical and extremist views woven into the story itself. The main character is listening to the radio while driving. To quote him:"The song was followed by a commercial for an abortion clinic selling itself as a feminist health center."I found Kellerman's attack on women's health centers utterly reprehensible. Groups such as PP have provided a full range of health-care service to women for decades: cancer screening, heart evaluations, diabetes care, mammograms, and many, many other contributions to women's health care.. Only 3% of PP's budget has ever gone to abortion, and now even less. The frontal attack on women's reproductive rights is a contentious one in our society, but Kellerman's book is no place for him to pimp his ideology This uncalled-for attack on women's health care centers--called derisively as a "feminist health care center" is disgusting and extremist for an author to include. Whether one agrees with Kellerman's cynical stab at women's health centers or not is beside the point. His book is thoroughly discredited in his effort to forward his views on reproductive health care. He may have strong feelings about contraception and abortion, but a detective mystery is NO place for him to trot out his anti-abortion ideology.Yes, Kellerman is entitled to believe whatever he wants, but to distort the core purpose of women's health centers is utterly despicable. At that point, I threw the book across the room and vowed that I will NEVER read Kellerman again. It is inconceivable to me that he would trash women's health-care centers as nothing more than abortion mills when they have offered decades of full health care to women, men, and families. I am ashamed of Kellerman, just ashamed that he would write this in his novel--a throw-away stab at women's health care clinics, so distorting their overall mission to help women in all stages of health care. Shame on Kellerman. I will NEVER read his books again, and I will notify all readers I know to avoid his works in the future. Shame on Kellerman. I'm done with him. SHAME!!!!!

Good Read - but too much theory that you just have to skip over
I love Jonathan Kellerman books, but this one had a little way much psychology theory in it for my liking, I understand that it is in there to further the story, but it was way overdone. Dr Delaware is telling everyone who will listen all about the psychological theory, then it is repeated again and again by other characters explaining it to yet other characters. Then there is the excruciating detail of the drug research he and 17-year old genius pretty girl do (seriously!). Do we really need to hear all about the different drug combinations that could NOT be applicable to the case he is investigating? If you are new to Kellerman, don't read this one first. If I had read this one fist, I don't think I would have read any others of his.If you are prepared to skip all the boring bits, it is actually a jolly good story and the ending brings it all together. He could have cut 100 pages of repetitive and irrelevant psychology lecturing out of this book to improve it. (Especially all the theory did NOT apply in this case)For people looking for mystery, rather than thrillers, try out Open Season (Joe Gunther Mysteries) If you are looking for exciting adventure books for kids / teenagers, take a look at Jake Johnson And The Half Bloods (Quest 1) (Jake Johnson And The Greek Gods) and its sequel Jake Johnson And The God Of War (Quest 2) (Jake Johnson And The Greek Gods) .

Awesome
All the psycho mumbo jumbo was well over my head but so very interesting. Didn't want to put the book down and didn't much. Ready for his next book.

One of my Favorite Kellerman Novels
I have read all of Jonathan Kellerman's novels, starting with WHEN THE BOUGH BREAKS back in 1986, two years before I began writing a novel of my own. I had to wait a while for BLOOD TEST, SURVIVAL OF THE FITTEST, and THE BUTCHER'S THEATER to come to a bookstore near me because I was in Europe at the time. Then OVER THE EDGE hit the bookshelves. This is the only thriller I've ever read twice. I was so excited about this novel that I purchased several copies of OVER THE EDGE and sent them to my friends. Some people who'd never read a single book by Kellerman thanked me for getting them hooked on this highly intelligent and gifted author.I love Kellerman's poetic prose. It manages to be imaginative and hard-core realistic at the same time. I have always been fascinated by genius, and what I loved most about this book is seeing into the mind of a child-genius from the perspective of a psychologist.Even if you've never heard of Jonathan Kellerman, even if you don't usually read psychological thrillers, I'm confident you'll love this book.

Excellent!
I really enjoyed this book. As a Clinical Psychologist myself, I appreciate Kellerman’s protagonist, Alex Delaware. He’s a realistic and very competent Clinical Psychologist….and police Consultant. The book is well written and the characters and story are interesting and well characterized.

Jamey had been a vulnerable child identified as a genius albeit with poor social skills
Over the EdgeThe third in Jonathan Kellerman's series featuring Dr Alex Delaware. Delaware is a Child Pychologist whose skills are used by the Courts and the Police to resolve complex cases. Until now......Delaware receives a call from a former client who he has not seen for five years. Jamey had been a vulnerable child identified as a genius albeit with poor social skills. Five years later he is on the phone ranting about zombies, glass canyons and white coats.Delaware establishes that Jamey is now in an institution but before he sees him Jamey escapes and is then in police custody with allegations being made that Jamey is a serial killer. The evidence appears to be conclusive. The defence lawyer asks Delaware to be part of his team in an effort to get Jamey's crimes considered under diminished responsibility. Delaware agrees though he has reservations about this particular approach especially as it puts him on the opposite side of the argument from his police friend Milo Sturgis.Delaware's investigation appears to raise more questions than answers. The symptoms Jamey is showing do not fit the behaviour patterns he is supposed to have been showing. As he digs deeper Delaware begins to find evidence of vested interests and corrupt business practices that some will go to any lengths to cover up.Set in California in the 1980s Kellerman's sheds light on a way of life that has now perhaps been taken over by time. However what is still as prevalent now as it was then are people's desire for power, money and control. This is an exceptional book.

Love Jonathan Kellerman? Love his 3rd Alex Delaware novel
One of my very favourite American thriller writers. I love the characters but if you've not read about Dr Alex Delaware PhD, his girlfriend Robin and their various French Bulldogs, his openly gay policeman friend Milo Sturgis you will start to love them too. This is Jonathan Kellerman's 3rd book in the Alex Delaware series. All the action takes place in Los Angeles and he goes into great depth about the routes his hero takes to get anywhere. All the main boulevards, highways, roads & places of general interest are mentioned from the La Brea Tar Pits to the Griffin Observatory & as with all Americans he doesn't say Santa Monica Boulevard just things like the he hangs a left onto Santa Monica or Sepulveda. The author is/was a child psychologist and so is his hero Alex Delaware who burnt out young & now does the occasional special request work, writes papers & is a special advisor to the police department regarding the bad guys or sometimes the bad ladies. I can't go into details about the plot of this book asw it is very complicated & extreme, suffice it to say that an young man who Dr Delaware treated as a child rings him up sounding terrible & tripping on acid urgently telling him that he was going to be killed..... Alex & Milo take it from there.

5 Star Book - 4 Star Presentation
I have long been a fan of the Dr Delaware books by Jonathan Kelland and having a Kindle is giving me the chance to collect the whole series from the beginning. The books are great, psychologically based crime with enough human interest about Dr Delaware himself, his partner and friends and way of life and, of course, a satisfactory conclusion to the story. So, a 5 Star book but only a 4 Star rating for the Kindle edition because of one really annoying typographical error - long words are constantly split into two by having a space inserted in the middle, eg. inter national.

Kindle Edition Poor - Buy a Paper Copy
I am not reading these books in the order they were written. This is the 14th I have read, and if I were ranking them in order of enjoyment, it would be ... number 14. That's not to say it's a bad book - it's not - it is just not as brilliant as the others. It's possible that part of my reading pleasure was marred by reading a truly awful kindle edition. Words are split into two, three or even four parts - psy ch o logists - or two or three words are run together. There is some form of error on almost every page. I would still recommend it, but I would advise you to get a paper copy.
