Don't expect this to work on really blunt or damaged blades
This is a nicely-designed, reasonably-priced, stylish-looking item. The way the ceramic rods store inside the case is particularly neat. When packed down, it will fit neatly into a kitchen drawer, and only takes a minute to set up. The angled mounting of the rods make it reasonably easy to grind at a specific angle.But...Both the kinds of grinding rods provided are comparatively fine. In fact, both feel completely smooth to the touch. I wouldn't know which was supposed to be the finer grit except for the colours. So, while I have been able to use this sharpener to keep a fine edge on knives that are already basically well-maintained, they do little for blades that are badly blunt. To be fair, I can get a bit of an edge on very blunt knives after much hard work, but it's clearly not the tool for the job. It should go without saying that this sharpener will be completely useless on blades that are actually damaged or nicked. In summary, this is a useful sharpener for people who are diligent about regular sharpening and maintenance. Those of us who use their knives until they are as blunt as a sausage, and then sharpen them with a file, need something different.

Simply fantastic
I got this today so this isn’t a long-term review, though I don’t imagine that would really change anything...this is amazing. This is a must-have for any knife owner. Kitchen knives would benefit and field knives and every day carry knives benefit hugely. It’s an absolute doddle to use and unless you struggle with a steady hand, you’ll be fine. Just keep the knife straight. This won’t repair chips in the blade, but it’ll keep your knives sharp. Ten passes on both sets of rods brought my penknife back to shaving sharp (seriously).I do imagine at some point that the screw hinge of the box might fail, but I really don’t care: the whole thing can just go in a box and the rods left out.I strongly, strongly recommend this, over any sharpener I’ve ever had (Lanksy field sharpeners have their place but this is a necessity!)

THIS! ! ! Buy this!
An absolutely fantastic piece of kit for the price. There's plenty more at 3x the price and more, but I can't imagine 3x the performance. It's only for maintaining an edge. If you need to put a proper edge back on your blade, then you need something that will thin the blade enough to hone it to your desired sharpness. I have the Lansky sharpening kit - the one with the stones and the blade-clamp/guide - which is cracking in it's own right. But once you've used that kit and just need to hone a good edge when you notice a dulling, this kit is easy and handy to set up and use. A dozen strokes and you're back in the game! Just remember to keep good steady pressure of the blade on the rods - Take it easy! Slow consistent strokes - You don't need to pretend you're a chef with a steel sharpener.I've got a few of those handy EDC sharpeners, with the carbine and ceramic sharpeners - Absolutely waste of draw-space now. I can get a razor-sharp edge with this (and I mean razor-sharp!) use the EDC type and my blade doesn't cut the mustard! Half a dozen strokes on the Lansky rods and I the contrast in sharpness is stark!

Quick and easy way to get a nice sharp edge.
I have recently got into pocket knives and I bought this turnbox on recommendation. I have found it to be really easy to use and can quickly get a nice edge on a knife that is already in decent condition.I have just ordered the Lansky Sharpening system with the 4 different diamond paddles, but that system costs 4 times more. The Turnbox is a great starting system if your budget is around £25.
