Separating the backing paper is a bit tricky. I use a box-cutter or x-acto blade.

Does Exactly What It's Supposed to do - A Little Difficult to Apply
This is very high-quality sensing tape that conforms perfectly to the host tape and adheres so well I could use it in place of splicing tape (I would hate to ever have to remove it!) The only problem with this tape, and the reason that I didn't give it five stars is the difficulty in removing the tape from the backing material. I have to use a magnifier and an X-acto knife to get the backing material off - which can be detrimental to the tape itself. The manufacturer needs to provide a center cut/crease on the backing material (similar to label tape) to make it easy to disengage. Otherwise - Great Product!
