Massacres Wild-Hatched Trout
My family and I use Blue Fox spinners as our go-to trout lures in mountain creeks and rivers all over the American West. We favor the plain silver in sizes #3 and up; I post this review under the #5 (7/16-oz) spinner because it's my personal favorite. Don't let the size and flashiness of this lure make you think a trout won't attack it--I've caught 5" baby browns on the #5 Blue Fox many times. Chuck this killer in at the top of an undisturbed, trout-occupied spot and pull it quickly downstream, and an incensed fish will usually strike within a cast or two. Fish the spinner under a snap swivel to avoid line twist; and if you're fishing in a lake, tie a barrel swivel 10" above that; without these, you will eventually have a bird's nest. These lures chronically hang up on every kind of snag point, but that's equally easily remedied: spool up some 30- or 50-lb SpiderWire, and either haul in what you're hung up on, or bend a hook and pull the lure free. (Yes, I have literally built my trout-fishing ensemble around Blue Fox spinners; I even up-sized my rod to a 6' 6", medium-action IM7 so I could handle them better).) After 20 years of continuous refinement, my bring-along box for trout fishing contains 50% Blue Foxes, 20% Rapala plugs, 25% spoons and other spinners (Daredevle, Mepps, and Panther Martin, FWIW), and 5% bait-fishing materials.Bottom line: if you want to catch trout in the West and aren't into stockers and Powerbait, this spinner is what you need.

Catches fish. Period.
The classic silver and chrome blue will flat out catch fish. I sat there for hours trying worms, jigs, crankbaits, swimbaits, jerkbaits, inlines like panther Martin and rooster tails... managed to catch one dink on a powerbait mousetail. Decided to put on the blue fox, and everything changed. Caught 2 beautiful rainbows back to back. Not even 10 minutes later I pulled out the 3rd. These will get smashed, even in cold water.
