Like reading a soap opera screenplay
Hmmmm, I had given this 4 stars because it was "okay" but as i write this review and thinking about it I'd say it's a 3 at a push. The storyline is all over the place, the prologue sweeps you in and then you think ooooo this is going to be a good one but unfortunately the rest just fell a bit flat for me. I think there were a lot of storylines and ideas but all together it just seemed a bit of a mash up and made it clunky and messy. The main character was just a drip imo. But she was a bizarre mix of a flakey loser and a mean girl who was manipulative and as untrustworthy as the people she moaned about being untrustworthy complete pot calling kettle black in most parts.Friends with someone who treats her like 💩 but then seems surprised each time she does something (like throwing her gift in the bin) and then also goes out her way to be a manipulative cowbag back at her giving her no leg to stand on.Then Engaged to someone that also treats her like a doormat who she proclaims several times that she doesn't really love but then seems to have excitement planning the wedding (for all of 5 mins) but shes secretly in love with her best friends husband even though he also doesn't come across as a nice guy.It was like she was supposed to be a strong person because she has no qualms in resorting to violence eventually but thats just not in keeping with the character for the rest of the book where she's flakey and drippy. She also gets given a secret that she is told "do not tell ANYONE" and she's all nice and flakey like of course I won't then tells the best friend (the one she no longer talks to because she can't trust her) 5 mins later all full of herself like "I know something you don't know" ...honestly, I really didn't like her at thatThe finale of who killed the best friend just had so much thrown at it with random storylines showing "it could be this person, it could be that person) got me to the point of thinking "I literally do not care who it is".Finally the end, where the main character swoops off into the sunset with the widow she's been in love with her whole life and realises he's not all he's cracked out to be so cue more manipulation with a pregnancy test.....all in all, I hated the main character so couldn't relate to anyone in the story at all and the whole thing read like it was a screenplay for Eastenders or something.

Good Read
Bec and Izzy have been friends for years, sharing all their ups and downs. This follows the ups and downs of their friendship along with the normal rivalry that occurs. A compelling read

Perfectly dark
Yet perfectly normal. This book really represents the jealousy and niggliness that happens in friendships. It just amplifies it, to great effect. A totally absorbing read that I devoured in a day

A dark, twisty, tale of friendship gone wrong...
I raced through this book over 48 hours! The opening chapter sees someone laying in a pool of blood, narrated by someone standing over them saying 'If anyone's got a motive to hurt you, it's me.' How could you not want to read on after that?!If you've ever thought how much easier your life would be without a certain frenemy, then you'll love this book. Bec and Izzy have the sort of friendship that most women will recognise well; the putdowns that are so subtle you wonder if you've imagined them; the constant comparing; the non-stop jealousy. And yet you can't let go of each other because so much of your shared history lives in that person. I sympathised with Bec while also wanting to scream at her to stop doing certain things! Izzy will make your blood boil as will a few other characters throughout this book.Without giving any spoilers, I had no idea how this book would end and was pleasantly surprised with the twist. Just when you think everything's going to get wrapped up, you're taken in a totally different direction.Overall, this is a 5* book and I can't wait to read more from the author.

Much more of a thriller than the cover suggests
I didn’t really know what to expect going into this but I have to say that I was pleasantly surprised, it is definitely more gripping and thrilling than the cover would suggest. We start the book at the scene of the crime and you think you know exactly what’s happened, it sure does look pretty clear cut but things aren’t quite as they seem…We go back in time and start to see the lives and friendship of Bec and Izzy, how close they are and everything that leads us to the final scenes. I have to say, I really didn’t like Izzy and definitely agreed with some of the comments Bec’s brother made, she just doesn’t seem like a nice person and I couldn’t see much good in her…As we head into the aftermath things take an interesting turn which I kinda saw coming but it did feel a bit awkward for me and I kept expecting something to go wrong or for a big reveal. Which of course did come, although it wasn’t the reveal that I was expecting at all - I’ve definitely got someone else down as my prime suspect!I ended up getting pretty hooked to this and found myself wanting to read on and discover the truth, I’d definitely have a read of more books by Polly in the future!

Overall I enjoyed it
I did enjoy the book however I felt like the big reveal at the end was rushed into the last few pages and if there had of been a little more depth to it I would of really enjoyed it. I'm still not sure when Bec realizes the reality of her friendship with Izzy and it left me with a lot of questions about her brother Rob and what will happen there.I did enjoy the book and the buildup but felt a little rushed at the end and an epilogue of where everyone is 1 year later could of helped answer some of the unresolved issues.

Annoyingly terrific - life interrupting
I bought this on recommendation from my cousin. He got it entirely right. From the first page I carried it everywhere on my kindle. I even took it to the supermarket to get a few more pages in. It had me captured from page one.It is a terrific demonstration of those close friendships most of us have experienced that turn toxic. Or do they? Like all attention holding books, I several times just rather smugly thought “ ah that’s what it is” at several points in the book. And then it wasn’t.Highly recommended author and book. What a debut novel! Warning. Only read it when there aren’t other things you ought to be doing.
