Good for basics. Some ideas I hadn't thought of. I like how there is techniques and projects to use the techniques as well as some images for ideas. An easy to follow and understand read.

The early part of the book treads familiar ground but the project examples that follow are full of ideas and inspiration. The results shown are generally only student level but that may encourage readers to feel that they can do better.

I'm a bit of snob when it comes to art technique books, so this 5 star rating is GENUINE!!! First, it's modern in the truest sense, (not as in early 2000s "modern,") and it's freshness conveys a "right now" pulse to both inspire AND instruct. Structurally, we are dealing with a sizable hardcover book that packs in almost 240 pages. Besides showcasing a smorgasbord of mixed media art, the book is sectioned by techniques. Image transfers, stencils, collage, printmaking, decoupage, papercutting, mail art, etc., are displayed with technique breakdown for all ranges of artist (yes, from amateur hobbyist to professional artist looking to get the juices flowing.) Types of papers, paintbrushes, paints, and mediums are brought up comparatively and discussed throughout... Sure, not every technique / style is included to please every single reader --- it's so thick and vast, I would never rate this book based on how much I personally will apply to my artwork. I find it frustrating when great products suffer from irresponsible reviews. This book -- as a product -- does just what it was set out to do.

Disappointed in print quality as the examples seem dull and uninspiring. The text is more beneficial for instruction. Not as visually pleasing so not the first choice I'll go to for motivation.
