Sir Syed Ahmad Khan: Vision and Mission

It covers the major contributions of social reformer and great educationist Sir Sayed Ahmad Khan who emerged as a ray of hope amidst the deep social and educational backwardness of muslims. He took inspiration from the Original and the Glorious and took it in a as no one could take. He had the qualities of Jamal-al-din al- Afghani but his contributions were far deeper and far greater than Al- Afghani. He also had some of the characteristics similar to Allama Iqbal though his intellect and achievements were lesser than Allama but his contributions were far more and far greater than Allama. He had the same rational, scientific, reformed outlook and love for consensus building through dialogues and discussions which Abul Ala Maududi, Mohammed Abdu, Rashid Rida, Shibli Naomani and Shah Walliullah had. He had the reformist zeal of Ali Shariati but his reformist contributions were far greater than Shariati. He had the love for education which resembles the one in Suleiman the Magnificent but his love for it was far more pervasive and lasting. He was a true ambassador of Hindu- Muslim unity. He resides in all hearts that aspire for modern scientific education to know what they know not. The contributors to this volume have covered the above mentioned characteristics in the persona of Sir Sayed Ahmad Khan who gave one of the finest learning institutions of the country known today as Aligarh Muslim University. The products of this great institution of excellence have spread out in almost all the continents and all prominent countries of the world occupying even the top positions in different important institutions/organizations of the world. The author has unveiled the great vision, high determination and continuous rigorous efforts of Sir Sayed Ahmad Khan in a thought provoking manner. An interesting read.

Reading of this book has given me great insights on great Muslim reformer, educationist, jurist, philosopher and administrator Sir Syed Ahmad Khan. Various facets of his personality delineated by Authors in different essays makes a wonderful reading and enlighten the mind.
