Artikel: humungous! - Versand: naja...

And now it's the villains turn into the spotlight
Krang is recovering from his latest defeat to the Turtles, but receives bad news when one of his kind turn up dead. However, this doesn't anger Krang as much as his subordinates alleged change of personality towards him. He then reflects on what made him into what he is. -summaryIDW brings another Micro-Series into the fold highlighting the Turtles foes. This batch of issues solely focuses on the villains origins and individual drives. While these stories may not showcase all of these villains as truly evil, yet more on the sympathetic side; they still accomplish what they set out for and even foreshadows possible steps some may take. This TPB contains Micro Series: Krang, Baxter Stockman, Alopex, and Old Hob.Unlike the other Micro-Series that focuses on the Turtles and their allies which kind of feels like skip material. This TPB feels quite important and I would recommend it as a read even to those whom only want to follow the main series. Krang and Stockman are quite similar in what motivated them into being who they are. They both seek conquest and were willing to do anything necessary to obtain it. Stockman comes off the more evil of the two though and the ending for his story was quite unexpected. Krang on the other hand didn't surprise me at all, since it's made clear very early he rules through fear and intimidation. The writing is quite entertaining watching them make their moves, especially Krang which almost feels quite comical. The latter two stories follows Old Hob on his path of vengeance against Splinter, but he later on abandons this for something else. While Alopex is given the chance to move forward in the Foot Clan. Especially in the case of Alopex, this TPB feels quite important because her actions later on felt too out of nowhere, and this story provides all of that necessary development. Now one thing that must be mentioned is that this story will be best enjoyed by those whom are actually following the main series, at least up until around volume six. This way one can appreciate the characters more, because simply falling into this TPB out of nowhere will cause things to feel kind of disjointed. This is not a "who's who" bio of the Turtles foes. The artwork goes through the revolving door treatment with different artist. This can be a problem for some searching for visual coherency, but these stories weren't meant to follow up on each other though. In any case, the little bit of action to be found is quite good, especially in the case of Alopex as this builds up her character, due to not taking her defeat to the Turtles easily. Old Hob's artwork is the best with some finely drawn character designs and detailed backgrounds. One can probably feel the pain he went through losing his eye to Splinter. The biggest flaw I can think of for some people will be the Turtles making little more than a cameo appearance. However, I think this is a small gripe because the villains focused on are so well written that they carry the narrative quite well. Although it feels copy and paste which I do have somewhat of a problem with such as Baxter and Krang's father issues, and Hob and Alopex's loss of family; they have enough charisma to still be interesting.Overall, if there is only one Micro-Series I would recommend it's definitely this one; if your intention is to only follow the main storyline I can understand that, but this TPB won't feel like a waste at all and many things later on will make better sense.Pros: Good character background and nicely paced writingCons: Character's origins feel kind of copied and paste, Turtles play no role here

Good Backgrounds for Side Characters
I really enjoy these background arcs for side characters. Often in the flow of the main story, it's hard to figure out why certain characters are the way they are. With the Micro Series, we're given background stories on Krang, Baxter Stockman, Hob, and Alopex. The stories helped flesh out the characters beyond "evil lackey" and helped by telling the reader "why" they became evil and "what" is really going through their minds as they go through the main storyline. We're also given answers to how some characters survived when seemingly thought dead in the main storyline. The artwork throughout is detailed and beautiful. I particularly like Ross Campbell's artwork in the Alopex arc - his use of color is wonderful and he somehow makes an white arctic fox pop out in a snowy Alaskan environment. Overall, the Villians Micro Series is a great addition to the main IGN TMNT storyline. It would be a welcome addition to any TMNT fan's shelf. Highly recommended!
