Cheap and Works!
Inatalled in a '96 MiataIt really is a 4.5 star for me so I rounded up. The bottom most nylon bushing was a pain, but if I had a bit more patience I would have used it. I reused the old bushing for now. That's my only gripe. The spacer(s) and hardware fit perfectly. The overall height is good. The best part is the "click" you get with every shift and this short shifter feels really precise.I recommend saving your money and purchasing this. Buy a "name brand" more expensive one simply for your pride.

Not bad for the price.
Shifts nice in my NA Miata, only issue I had like everyone else mentions is the bushing is to big. I had the bronze upgraded bushing originally and it did not fit on the shifter. So I had to order a new plastic one instead.

Does not fit rx7
It should be taken out of the product description because this thing does not work with Rx7’s at all and is absolute garbage. I’d leave 0 stars if I could you guys are awful.

Not too shabby
Instructions were a pain in the butt. Other than that the shifts feel smooth and I love it!

May come with missing parts. Poor fitment.
CONSWhat can you say it's cheap! It was missing one of the nylon pieces. Was painful to get it to properly fit. Required a decent bit of modificationPros the actual machined pieces were incredible for the price. Is holding up well a few months in!

30% shorter shifts doesn't mean better. Serious modification required
2002 NB2 Mazda MX-5 Miata 5MT w/ 54k miles. TL;DR: It works if you modify each component in the kit. Shifts are maybe ~30% shorter and require a lot more force because of the reduced mechanical leverage advantage. It's cheap and works, but look elsewhere if you want qualityInitial impressions:- Teflon bushings do in fact look like real PTFE, but the machined finish on them isn't the best.- Aluminum spacer plate is nicely deburred of sharp edges. The aligning finger is a threaded grub screw though, not a nice smooth pin like the OEM shifter- Shift lever is chrome-plated brass or bronze, NOT steel like OEM. It looks cast too, rather than machinedThe install took ~4x longer than I anticipated: So here's what I had to do to get this to fit in my 2002 NB 5 speed.:- Shifter fulcrum ball has a machined groove with a PTFE insert pressed in. This interfaces with the grub screw in the aluminum spacer ring. This PTFE insert protruded too much and the ball wouldn't fit into the receptacle in the transmission. I cut this down with a razor blade- Shifter is 2 pieces: lower portion with the fulcrum ball, upper portion with the shifter knob threaded shaft. They screw together but there's no flats for a wrench. I used Loctite + two pipe wrenches to firmly screw them together. They're pretty coarse threads. So if you don't tighten these with loctite, then in the future when you go to remove your shift knob, the shaft will just unscrew from the mid section. The pipe wrench teeth bit into the chrome plating, and you can tell it's brass or bronze (orange-yellow) underneath. it also doesn't have the heft that steel does.- "Cup" bushing that goes on the bottom of the shifter fits the shifter ball well, but is too big to fit into the receptacle cup within the transmission. I just used my OEM bushing as it was still in good shape (~50k miles).- Aluminum spacer only had one notch cut in. NBs require two notches, NAs only require one. You can either: drill a second hole in the spacer for the transmission’s second pin, or you can remove the 2nd pin from the transmission. I removed the pin enough for the spacer to slide in without drilling a 2nd hole, but hammered the pin in enough so it’s still liquid-tight against the turret fluid- Aluminum spacer chamfered ID increased to fit the upper PTFE ring bushing- Upper PTFE ring bushing OD ~2mm to big. Grinded down.Further recommendations:- Bronze/brass cup bushing upgrade. The shorter shifter throw requires more torque and probably puts more load onto the end. The OEM plastic bushing might wear out more quickly- The OEM shifter has two rubber boots: an upper and a lower. My garage-kept 2002 NB with 54k miles had both completely torn. This short throw shifter kit deletes the lower boot but still uses the upper. Order one to have on-hand- Use this as an opportunity to replace the shifter turret transmission fluid. There’s a drain plug on the top of the transmission, or you can suck it out using a turkey baster once the shifter is removed. Use the same fluid as what’s in your transmission

shifts great
i have a 1992 miata fit perfect took me a little bit to figure out how to put it in but youtube helps but the product itself is quality and i would highly recommend, only part that did not fit was the shifter bushing

The Reviews are right, the bushing doesn't fit
The top plastic bushing is literally just a couple mm in diameter too wide. You could hand sand it down with sandpaper or a sand belt if you're fancy. If your bottom bushing disintegrated like mine did, just go ahead and buy the Dorman 917-551 kit and you'll be solid. I used both the bottom and upper plastic bushing and everything lined up nice.Shifts so much better than stock.
