Excellent book bringing biblical scholarship to the layman. The parables are about the nearest we have to the teachings of Jesus before the Church transformed into a God. This work of the Jesus seminar (criticised for not toeing the evangelical line) is straightforward, accessible and includes a surprisingly thoughtful essay by film director Paul Verhoeven. Hugelky recommended for anyone who wants to go beyond the pulpit preaching to encounter the message (or challenge) of the often overlooked, and forced interpreted, parables.

Here the siege and the Guru come alive in our readings and dialogue. Human beings are constantly learning and seeking wisdom as the Principal thing.
