Oatey 40601 Hercules 300-Degree Plumber's Grease

I have used this stuff on many different things, even non plumbing items, and have been very pleased with it.

OK, but it is much thinner than other plumbers grease that I have been using. The jar I received liquefies when sitting in the Sun and the air temp is around 85 F, no where near 300 degrees. At room temp it is the consistency of room temp Mayonnaise. Am I missing something?

This "plumbers grease" has no grease viscosity at all. It is thin and watery. It is described as a petroleum/oil product and "not intended for O-ring use". Well, that is about the dumbest thing I've ever read. If it is being called plumbers grease, it is mandatory that it be O-ring friendly or NOT be sold at all. If you use it on most any metal faucet part, there WILL be a rubber O-ring on both sides of it. This stuff will cause a lot of unexpected & early plumbing failures. I would not recommend ever using it. Plus, petroleum oil lubricants should NEVER come near water used for human consumption. I believe there a law somewhere about that. ONLY "Food Grade" Silicone plumbers grease should be used. Period.T'care,Syd
