Blue one weight about 60lbs yellow one about 50 lbs and with pulley system is 2:1 pull ....so I pull up 30 and 25 lbs on 1/4" pull lines. Harken Hoists are worth the extra cost because it pulls up all 4 line evenly to lift the load level with one rope.

My third hanger
We have two of these in our garage. My wife has a 27’ rowing shell we sometimes have to store at home due to hurricanes in Florida. I installed this set in our living room ceiling. I made a few modifications, replacing the heavy lags with threaded adapters mounted in the joists, and threaded eye bolts to replace the stock wood threads. I then put small plastic caps in the ceiling to hide the adapters. Now if we have a pending hurricane, I can pop the caps, attach the eyebolts and pulleys, and install the system.

Best hoist on the market, but lengthy installation
I purchased this hoist to store my extension ladder against the ceiling in my garage. It works as described. I have one of the cheap $40 lifts for my kayak and this one is definitely better. It raises evenly and I can get the ladder raised to within 8 inches of the ceiling. I will say it took much longer to install than I expected; lots of measuring and remeasuring. The instructions tell exactly what you have to do, but you may need to read them a few times. Install took me about 6.5 hours. This can be installed by one person if you're steady on a ladder and fairly strong. I added an eye hook in the rafter and a chain around one of the ladder rungs just for safety.I'd definitely recommend this hoist, just plan for a lengthy installation.

Not easy at all and expensive
To the person who said this takes 30 mins to install, screw you.4 hours, that's how long this took me. Not to add in the time it takes to go to the store to buy the 2x6s and lag screws. Which cost another $40 or so with current prices. I was between this and the garage smart system. Which was double the price, but it's electric and an all in one unit to install. It doesn't make you buy more parts to install. This really is a case or cheaper isn't better. The system isn't crazy complicated, but it just takes time for someone not familiar with these types of things. There's alot of parts to this install process that can be upgraded. For the money. It's pretty expensive for what it is. Your paying for some pulleys and rope. It would benefit with more end user convenience.Like include the 8 lag screws and washers for the 2x6. I'd also like the an easier attachment for the straps and the rope. I could see caribeeners being a good solution. It took me 30 mins just figuring out how to tie that knot and getting it decent. And even my finished product leaves much to be desired as my leveling of the straps looks pretty bad. Also the package should include a tie up for the rope when the kayak is up. I ended up rolling it up and laying it on the floor by the wall.I mean after typing all this out. It's really a bad product to the customer because it requires so much not included to finish it. Only good thing about it. Is once you get it up there, it's pretty sturdy.

Superb hoist for 10ft Kayak!
After tons of research, I settled on purchasing x2 Harken Hoist systems for x2 10ft Pelican Kayaks. First install took some time, 2nd should go much quicker. Very easy to hoist up and down. Kayak almost feels weightless when hoisting. Now just to find a decent rope cleat to attach excess rope to garage wall.I would recommend this product to others.

Works Well, A bit challenging to install
I just finished installing this a week ago so I do not know how it will wear. We are using it to lift a kayak of about 40 - 50 lbs and my wife is able to operate it. I'm reasonably satisfied so far and have just ordered another unit. And I learned how to tie a new knot.Considerations:1. You don't see in the purchasing information that you also need to buy (2) 7' 2" X 6" boards along with lag bolts for screwing the boards to the ceiling. Depending on how you choose to mount the system you might also need another 2" X 4" also.2. I'm not at all sure why you can't use 2 X 4's instead of 2 X 6. I will probably use 2 X 4s for the next one.3. READ the instructions 2 - 3 times before you begin. Installation is a bit complicated and you are working on a ladder, so the more you know the fewer trips up and down.4. There's a small pin with a smaller little clip ring used for mounting the block and tackle device to the wall. Which you are trying to do standing on the ladder while holding the block and tackle cleat. You will drop that little ring and, if you are like me, you will never find it. Tie a piece of string on that little ring.5. I did this by myself but it would much easier to do if you have a second person there to help hold up the boards.

Awesome lift
Wasn't aware I need to supply some of my own lumber for this, but no problem. Great lift. Handles a sloped ceiling no problem. Have a bit of an unconventional install. Thankfully it comes rigged with MILES of cord so you can modify mounting positions without worry of running out of cordage.

Quality and effective
We have used for over 12 months for a 5.5 metre kayak. Perfect safe solution. Highly recommended. We needed to fix timber to the ceiling and wall as part of the solution.
