Giant Robo The Complete Original OVA Series [Blu-ray]

When I pre-ordered this set I meant to cancel it in the hope the price would drop farther down from the initial discounted amount. I’m happy I didn’t cancel after reading the glowing reviews for another home run blu ray edition by Discotek! If you’re a fan of this vintage OVA series you won’t be disappointed!I had seen the first five episodes of the Giant Robo OVA in the early-to-mid 90’s on VHS without subtitles before discovering its commercial availability in the states. While I was wowed by the design and art as well as the mind-blowing score by the Warsaw Philharmonic Orchestra, I expected more GR action. While there are plenty of moments with Daisaku and Robo, what floored me later on is how well the series was written and character driven! Having owned the previous DVD set I found myself immensely satisfied with the story in its entirety and the layered surprises in each episode. Discotek exceeded my expectations with this blu-ray release! Not only will longtime fans be satisfied with 2 English dubs (including the dub from the early VHS release of this series), the video and audio quality of the series spread across 2 discs are outstanding! Extras include promos, character/mecha/layout art, and if you love Amano’s score as much as I do you’re in for a treat; you can watch the creative process unfold with the archived video of live scoring sessions! As with various Discotek anime blu-ray editions, you get a Giant Robo 'easter egg' in the form of post cards depicting the poster art used in the OVAs. Fans who own the earlier complete DVD edition may want to keep that set as this blu-ray edition does not include the Ginrei OVA.Overall, despite not having the Ginrei episode, if you’re a fan of the 90’s Giant Robo OVA trust the previous stellar reviews! Whether your loyalty is to Daisaku or Big Fire, add this must-have anime to your library and own “the beautiful night!!”

リージョンは日本と同じで、国コードもないので国内のプレイヤーで再生可能です。画質も日本版のマスターを使用しているようで綺麗です。音質も非常にクリアです。さて、他のレビューに見られる字幕問題ですが、消せますよ。以下のように操作してください。1.メニュー画面で、日本語で英語字幕ありを選ぶ。2.そのまま再生。3.オープニングが始まったら、プレイヤーのリモコンにある字幕ボタンを押してください。4.何回か押していると字幕消か字幕offの項目があるので、それを選んで下さい。5.チャプターボタンで最初に戻って下さい。以上の操作で日本語で字幕無しの状態になります。このソフト以外の海外版blu-rayでもこの操作で消えるものが結構あるので、試して下さい。ただし、消えないものが最近主流派なので、人柱になってくれた方のレビューは参考にして下さい。

Wow there's a lot to say about this anime! It has everything going for it. To start the score is extremely well done and adds a lot to the anime. When I say this anime has everything going for it I really mean it it has action, comedy it has character development it has a great storyline and the animation is fantastic. This anime is well worth the price. I know 45 to $50 seems like a lot of money to some people but this anime will give you your money's worth for sure! I am absolutely glued to the screen it's a beautiful work of art! I would encourage any anime fan out there to get this one!
