The media could not be loaded.  I bought this tailgate shock because I open my tailgate quite a lot because I tow a fifth wheel camper. Anyone who owns a truck knows, if you're not careful, that tailgate can slam down with quite a bit of force. I've even had the straps break on a truck I had years ago, well, this will solve that problem!The install is about as easy as it gets. It took me about 15 minutes and everything went smoothly. They supply everything you need - a T50 torx wrench and a flatter replacement screw for one of the brackets (which I didn't use) so all you need is a 10mm wrench for a couple of the bolts and to do the labor. You'll reuse some of the screws and you'll still keep your strap as well; the shock bracket fits in behind the strap bracket. The most difficult part is extending the shock cylinder when you are ready to put it on but, it's not terribly hard, just takes a little effort and patience. I posted a video showing the full install so you can see how easy it was.Once you finish the install, you're going to be very happy because, when you release the latch to open the tailgate, you just let it go and the tailgate eases down, it won't slam the way it previously did. Also, and very important, the tailgate is not any harder to close with the shock installed, I could not tell any difference at all. This thing is going to make it so much easier on me and I'm very pleased with how easy everything was to install. If you have a truck, you need this, it's well worth the cost!

Love it great value. Works like it should. Easy install. But the 2 bolts that came with it would not screw into my tailgate. They wouldn't start so I used the 2 screws that was in my tailgate worked fine . For what I payed for it ford should make it a factory part . I'm not crying over spilled milk I got it and love it .

Short term, works as expected. No issues with the installation except the included Torx key is slightly rounded and does not seat solidly in the bolt head. Some extra care and pressure took care of that and everything else went fine. Wear gloves. Still wait and see on long term use and if the stay cable binds at all. Otherwise very satisfied.

This tailgate assist is awesome. I installed it on an F-350 and my tailgate is equipped with tie-down hooks of which I had to remove on the left side to accommodate the shock but that's fine. Instant happiness when that tailgate open slowly. Especially for the price you won't regret it.

The media could not be loaded.  Took a gamble on the cheaper priced HelloAuto tailgate assist over the pricier name brand that most people use. It seems to be operating properly. The cable folds a bit awkwardly, but does not put tailgate in a bind. It looks as though this would be unavoidable with any assist shock. As others have stated on reviews, the supplied T50 torx wrench does seem to fit a little bit loose, but hey, it is supplied at no cost. Just take your time and don’t force anything. We’ll see how the shock and hardware hold up. Solid 4 stars at this time.

I cannot say enough about HelloAuto's customer service. I received the tailgate assist kit and everything installed perfectly until I went to snap in the shock. The shock was obviously too short. I contacted customer service and they quickly realized that the package Amazon shipped to me had been opened and the wrong shock was in the package; in fact, it was a shock from an entirely different company, though the rest of the parts were correct. Way to go Amazon (thick sarcasm). HelloAuto immediately shipped out an entirely new kit at no charge, and the new shock fits and works perfectly. Two thumbs up to this company!

Came with aluminum screws instead of the black screws. I was pleasantly surprised at the quality and cost.

Worked well. I did have to turn the cylinder over, put it upside down the first time.

The damper is simple not compatible with the UK version of the Ford Ranger, can the US and UK versions be so fundamentally deferent!! I tried to alter it by cutting the plates down now I can’t return it, really disappointing.
