Garden Time

Fine touch of an excellent poet. Vivid analeptic imagination of the blinding old man.

My poetry reading group has been reading and discussing this book for the last four months. We are amazed at the depth of thinking and ideas in each poem. We each select a poem and have a go at responding to it. The stimulating discussions would please Mr. Merwin whose talents have not diminished with age. It's not a book of poems to read straight through; we have selected and then compared poems as there are connecting themes and ideas. My appreciation for his style, skill, and technical ability is enhanced. I recommend this to any serious poetry reader.

A delightful boo, mixing prose and poetry from a very knowledgeable author. The excellent photos would have been better served with caption on each, rather than listed at end.

WS Merwin has a way of using simple words to produce profound feeling. These poems are end of life poems but carry no gloom.
