The newer ones are built better, because the older ones you had to use ...
I have at least 15 of this product in my offices! The newer ones are built better, because the older ones you had to use tweezers to open the partwhere you put the staples in! The older ones did not take the 3/18" staples and it is much louder and the staples do not come out of the documents easily!

Works well, never jams, easy to use
I bought the Optima 45 about one year ago and typically have been using it 40 to 80 times per week, occasionally using it up to 50 times in one day. Most of the time I'm only stapling 2 to 10 sheets together, but occasionally I staple as many as 25 sheets. I've never had the need to staple 45 sheets, so I don't know how well it works at full capacity, but it easily handles 25 sheets of 20 lb paper. In the entire year that I have been using it, it has only jammed once, and that was partially my fault for pulling out the paper while it was still in motion. I have been very pleased by the tight and flat stapling that reduces the bulge that you normally get when stacking a pile of stapled papers. The "optima" staples that are recommended for this stapler are a bit pricey, but do seem to perform well. Overall I am very satisfied with this stapler, which works much better than my previous one manufactured by another company.

This used to be a very good staple and a good value for the price
This used to be a very good staple and a good value for the price. Things have changed. If the product description says "flat clinch", it is wrong. I bough this same model (Optima 45), last year and that is still a good stapler. The flat clinch IS the feature that i bought the stapler for. We had a large staple project, so I figured I would buy another Optima 45. When it came in, I quickly opened and set it up for our project. My first clue that this was different was that the power cord it attached into the stapler. My original Optima 45 has an AC adapter. The motor on this new one is 4 to 5 times louder than my original Optima.I really suspected that this was an imposter. I immediately packaged it back up and returned it to Amazon.I then bought another one, hoping that this was just a mistake. Nope! The next one was identical to this bad Optima 45. I returned it as well. The things I liked about the Optima 45:1) Flat clinch - Gone. You don't get this any longer with the new version. Swingline didn't think it was a good option2) Uses standard strip staples - the new versions still uses this3) Quiet motor - Gone. The new version has a very loud motor.4) Low staple warning light5) Lighted guide lights6) Adjustable depth7) 45 sheet capacityUpon calling Swingline's customer service, they informed me that there are ZERO flat clinch staplers in their lineup now (at least in electric, not sure about manual). The only two feature I am shopping for are standard strip staples and flat clinch. I gave up all of the features I like on this staple to get a different brand that had the flat clinch.

Small, Reliable, Powerful.
Swingline exceeded my expectations:Works great, I use the premium staples in it, have never jammed on me. Can be used with batteries, which is useful on some desks with limited outlets/space. However, I prefer to plug it in to show off the cool lighting. I love the feature of the adjustable stop. You can change where on the paper the staple activates by moving the adjustable stop and trip sensor forward or back. You can also activate manually by pressing on the top. This has a smaller form factor than generic models I have used in the past, but this more reliable and powerful. It has the added bonus of a built-in staple remover; just pop it out to use it, and place it back to keep a tidy desk!If you want to be the ENVY of your OFFICE SPACE, this is the machine to get!

Many good functions
This unit has some interesting features. For example, it has the two lines to show you where the staple will go, auto or manual mode, staple storage, depth gage of how deep into the stack of paper you want to staple, quiet operation, cinch stapling, stack depth gauge to prevent you from trying too many sheets at once, low staple indicator, stylish and functional. Some of the items I had concerns is the bottom staple storage tray sticks when you push to open, and end up just pulling it open, ability to unplug cord from back of unit making power supply outside of the unit. When the unit is powered on the front red light stays on which is a little annoying-- I just unplug it. Not a super fast stapler--takes a couple seconds to staple so not good if you have a lot to do--good for the average stapling job of a few stacks here and there. However, the trade off on speed is noise-- the high speed ones sound like a gun going off.I have not had it long so I can not speak to durablity and jamming. Wish it was easier to take apart in the event of a jam.Since this unit uses a 18v DC power supply, you could run off of a battery pack you could build yourself.

3 MTHS OLD AND MALFUNCTIONED
It's only been 3 months since this was purchased and it has already malfunctioned. I can staple manually but the automatic stapling will not work. I have to position the paper a certain way for it to even work in the manual position. Unfortunately Amazon will not replace it since you are only allowed 30 days from purchase date so I will now have to resort to sending it out to the manufacturer. HOWEVER, due to the fact that the manufacturer warranties it, I had no issues whatsoever with the warranty department sending me a replacement. You MUST use the specified staples for the Optima.

Was purchased as a gift, no longer in working order
I bought this stapler as a birthday gift last April, it jams up already, it isn’t even a year old…do I return it to you? Will you send me a replacement? Is there any warranty? Not satisfied with this product. I do quite a lot of purchasing from Amazon. Thankyou, Esther Shupe
