Beautiful Cookbook - great gift
Firstly - this book is stunning. It has real personality. It's a riot of colour and cool which bleeds from page to page, there is an intimate and fun discourse from Welgemoed and (importantly) the food is very enticing. And the art and layout of the book - including a stand-out binder for your shelf and a punchy cover (truth: you CAN judge a book by it's cover.) - for sheer good looks, this belongs on the shelf of every cookbook lover.I got this as a gift so I haven't cooked from it but I've eaten at Africola a few times and it remains my favourite restaurant in Adelaide, so I would expect good things. The the recipes look quite straight forward to do. The vegetable dishes and condiment dishes would be where I would start. And in a saturated market, this book feels unique. Im at an age where I can't go to someone's house without bringing a dish and it's all ottolenghi and alison roman (good stuff, mind you!) - so I'd be pumped to move a little to the left of the mainstream and bring something from this book.I got this for a friend as a birthday gift, but I will be getting one for myself and a few more for my foodie friends for xmas.

Not your run of the mill cookbook. Top recipies, top book and Duncan sounds like a top bloke
What a great book love the honest language and thoughts I have tried a couple of recipes. I tried the pipis bloody awesome, Love the peri peri sauce chicken as i have always been fond of the commercial version mentioned but it was hit or miss, this is absolutely lip smacking leaves the commercial sh*t for dead, big thanks to his dad. Will only make my own from now on, I adjusted it the second time just removed some seeds so all family can enjoy it. (Not just me) Waiting to make boerewors . Enjoyed the read on sustainability. Hoping to go to Adelaide and try out some honest tucker at Africola.

Africola, yes please!!!
I bought this book for myself and my daughter wanted one too when she saw mine. I have cooked several of the recipes and the flavour was just superb. The Peri Peri chicken was divine, the boerewors was true to taste, the pork neck skewers delicious. these are just to name a few. Am working my way through this book. Duncan’s anecdotes and hints on spice are hilarious, especially his notation on bone broth. If you’re a South African you will love love love this book

Great recipes & good read
Bought this for my son for Christmas. I've flicked through it and know he is going to love it.Not only will he love the recipes, he's going to connect with Duncan's "tell it like it is" writing style and sense of humour.
