Nice quality
This was part of a gift for a water color beginner. I find that using quality materials encourages young artists from the start.

The Norberg & Linden 9x12 Mixed Media Painting Watercolor Pad (2 Count) I'm a fan of!The set of two pads shipped well with minimal packaging. The pads were sealed up in clear plastic. The pads emitted no weird odors or chemical-like smells. They are true in size and features a binding that makes it easy to pull/remove a piece of paper from the pad without ripping and tearing. I did run into just one issue as the first pages on both pads had the sealing glue on them. These pages I am using for practice pieces but I wanted to point out that it was an issue leaving paper/glue residue behind on those first sheets. Each pad has 32 pages which are double-sided. I like it since I am doing a lot of practice that I have much more to work with. The size is great for larger scenes or lots of little sketches and art creations on one page. I like this cold press 300GSM with 140lb. It has a decent texture that isn't too much nor too little. It is acid-free and the white color is true.I mainly am using this for watercolor art but it can be used with other not incredibly heavy bleeding art mediums.Recommended.

Good paper for practice or small works
I really enjoy doing inks and watercolor, and this is a nice paper. I am not a huge fan of the glue binding, because there does tend to be the occasional tear when trying to remove a sheet from the pack. That said, anyone creating watercolors they intend to keep, is very likely going to stretch them with paper tape, and trim the edges anyway. So this isn't exactly a deal breaker. This pad would be good for images that you're going to trim down to an 8x10 viewed area anyway. About 3/4" of tape coverage from putting the majority of 1/2" wide tape on each edge leaves 1/4" of bleed area to be put behind a mat inside of a frame. If you're new to watercolor, you should expect that. If you want to make an ACTUAL 9x12 image, you will need even larger paper, so you can lose a bit of it to paper tape. I've tried a lot of techniques, and the ONLY one that leaves you with truly flat paper, is taping with paper tape, and letting it dry for several days, then trimming the edges. This is the paper you want to get, if you want your final product after trimming, to be A1 size. This pack is also economical, so it is good for those who just want to practice watercolor techniques without messing with all of that paper tape and stuff, and who aren't terribly concerned about the paper buckling when it dries and all that jazz. It'd be a good "sketch" pad for watercolors, if you will. The removal of a star is just what it is, because is this high quality, top of the line watercolor paper? No it is not. It probably won't hold up to scrubbing as if you were taking out all of your existential angst on the paper. It is, however, exactly as the description promises, and of good quality for hobbyists and people learning. I recommend the set for those ends. It won't disappoint.
