Pure Brilliance!
Pat Williams does an excellent job dissecting leadership at it's core making recommendations for people who desire to be a leader. Williams crosses both political sides recognizing leadership qualities. Putting Ronald Reagan, Harry Truman, John F. Kennedy and in some examples George W. Bush as some with great leadership qualities shows his only agenda is the topic at hand. Many authors with inflated egos will write only from their head. Pat Williams combines his life experiences as well as doing extensive research on the great leaders in America and the World. His "End Notes" and bibliography verify this. The stories he tells proves that leaders get things done. He cites example after example. One has Mother Teresa influencing Mayor Ed Koch and Governor Mario Cuomo to okay an AIDS treatment center in New York in a matter of a couple of days that normally would have taken months or even years. Leaders have to be sensitive also. One example Williams cites is Ronald Reagan letting a group of blind people touch his face with the condition that the press does not cover this event. Another has a football coach dealing with one of his player's personal issues in a meeting in his office and his secretary calls in that Bob Hope, Spiro Agnew and Roone Arledge are all on the phone holding. The coach, Bobby Bowden tells her that he will call them back. Stories like this and more make you want to change the way you approach everyday of your life.Williams leaves the best story for last about John Croyle. He was an Alabama football star who saw his life calling and sacrificed an NFL career to help people. You'll have to read the book to capture this incredible story.Whether you are a leader, a leader in training or even a follower, Leadership Excellence packs a powerful punch! This is highly recommended!

Leadership Excellence is an excellent formula for life
I am sorry to say that I did not know Pat Williams until I was given this book as a gift. I was delighted to see that it was signed by the author but was awed by the content. My copy has is been marked up, pages dog eared with lots of highlighted areas throughout the book. It is not only chocked full of stories of success, it also provides a clear path for anyone wanting to apply the seven sides of leadership. Pat William's written presentation is motivational but it also challenges the reader to do better, be better. Many can motivate but Pat William's goes beyond pointing out the success of others, the success of his own life; he guides and teaches without regard to the readers level within or without an organization. its great to feel good when finishing a book, this book also left with me with work to do, challenges and many things to reflect - that apply to my life. I believe this book will challenge anyone to be a better human being, contributor to this world and to better to oneself - to reach beyond what one thinks they are capable of doing. I would enjoy having a work book to accompany this text to work the principles from this book.

The pinnacle of leadership books
Leadership Excellence: The Seven Sides of Leadership for the 21st Century [Kindle Edition]Pat Williams (Author), Jim Denney (Author)There are literally hundreds of books about leadership (and I have read well over 20), but I contend that there are none, literally none, comparable to this one. One of the first facets of this great book that I noticed was that, like a great novel, I literally could not put it down. Unlike other leadership books that tend to be written in an "authoritative", detached manner espousing somewhat academic rules, this is written in such a way that you feel that the author(s) are sitting with you on a couch enumerating common sense principles, not only for leadership, but even more importantly for the effective and truly rewarding living of one's own life. For instance, one of the principles elucidated in the book is that to lead a group it is imperative that you literally love all the members of that group, and they go into great detail about how that not only can be possible, but is essential for success.By using direct personal quotes from leaders like General Colin Powell, Coach Phil Jackson, Sam Walton, President Ronald Reagan and his son Michael, Robert F. Kennedy, Lee Iacocca, and many others he illustrates in detail how all of these diverse individuals employed similar "people skills" and rules of personal conduct to achieve leadership success. The book ends with the truly moving story of John Croyle, a truly singular example of a leader, who eschewed a professional football career to achieve monumental success in finding, loving, nurturing, and being a role model for literally thousands of young boys and girls. In my opinion this book is valuable for anyone of any age and in any walk of life. It can and should be used as a measuring stick by which each of us can assess if we have the proper perspectives in our lives, to be not only effective, "loving" leaders, but also selfless, humble contributors to society.Peter J. This is an outstanding book in every aspect. It has great content and is a great read. I have read dozens of books on leadership and this is one of the finest.
