Q: Would you use this to install plastic wall anchors in drywall?

No, I would not use this to install plastic anchors. The head is too large and heavy and you risk damaging the surrounding drywall. I would recommend Estwing DFH-12, a 12oz. double-face hammer/mallet (available on Amazon for $14.93). The DFH-12 has a much smaller diameter head and a choice of a soft side or a hard side depending on the task. I have found that a few gentle taps with the DFH-12 will correctly “seat” the plastic anchors with no damage to the drywall. As a bonus, the DFH-12 is just a great tool all around. If you don’t want to buy another tool, use a small piece of wood as a buffer over the anchor and use the other mallet. More work, though, and you risk damaging the drywall with the wood block.

Q: Is there a way to replace the handle for tgis mallet

For safety reasons, I would not attempt to replace the handle. There is no obvious connection point between the mallet head and handle. Removal of the damaged handle will most certainly damage/weaken the opening in the mallet head, precluding secure attachment of a replacement handle. I usually encourage repair, but, in this case, potential injury from an insecure mallet head would prompt me to purchase a new mallet (and find a new use for the “leftover” rubber head). Safety first!

Q: Does the mallet have true dead bounce on all materials? Especially wood and metal?

I can't speak to "true dead bounce", but that said, I've been well pleased with the ability of this mallet to suppress the inherent bounce of rubber when striking either metal or wood. I would purchase this mallet again (plus, it's made in the U.S. of A.)!

The head weight is 12 oz. The overall weight of the tool is an estimate 1.5 pounds.
